Beatles #1 Albums
« on: July 06, 2004, 03:43:30 AM »

I was wondering, of the Beatles 13 studio releases, did any of them not go to #1.  I was thinking the only one that might not have would be Yellow Submarine.  If anyone knows please share.

You pretty much nailed it.....YS was kept off the top in America by The White Album and in the UK by The Sound of Music Soundtrack, if I remember correctly.

Yes, they are. What I don't understand yet is how the single  Starwberry Fields/Penny Lane didn't go to number one to "Release me", a song that nobody remembers today...

I for one remember it!

It`s actually a classic country music hit that British singer Engelbert covered and it depends on people`s tastes if they remember and/or like this song.

How could it keep PL/SFF from No. 1? My theory is that a lot of older women were attracted to that kind of song and that kind of singer - especially during these times of revolution and general 'otherness'. So these older, more conservative women (mostly) went out in force to buy that 45 - representing the quiet majority that was opposed to the counterculture of the 1960s.
