Title: George Harrison - What A Great Little Album ?
Post by: DaveRam on May 24, 2009, 06:43:40 AM
My copy of George Harrison's eponymous album from (1979) came last week and i must say i really like this album .
There's not a bad track on it as far as i can hear , i love Dark Sweet Lady , Love Comes To Everyone , Blow Away , Here Comes The Moon and Soft Hearted Hana .
George's vocal is lovely and  relaxed and is among the best i've heard from him ?
The production from George and Russ Titelman is clean and crisp and makes for an unclutterd sound , even the the sound effect songs Faster and Soft Hearted Hana , shine .
What i like about this album is George's vocal and it's soft 70's rock feel .
Out of the five albums i now own from George i can see this one becoming a real favourite of mine , will be chilling out to this one for many years to come (thumbsup)
What are your thoughts on this album ???

No one's replied? Well I agree with you, not a bad track on it. Here comes the moon, the moon, the moon, the moooooooon. I listened to Rocking Chair in Hawaii (Brainwashed) today, and George's voice is great (I think I may still have been grieving when I first heard the record and couldn't enjoy the new tone of his voice). I'm with you DaveRam(?) not a bad track on George Harrison or Brainwashed! Dana ; )

This is the only George Harrison album I actually bought (taped most of the rest), because I really liked Blow Away and Faster after I heard them on the radio. And two good songs on an album should make the complete thing enjoyable, I thought. I must admit I wish kinda in the soft 70's rock thing that time (Bread and David Gates) and this album fits in nicely. I still listen to Blow Away every now and then, but thought after a while that most of the album is a bit too soft for me. Not a bad album tho.

I bought it on release (was buying anything Beatley those days) and thought it was nice, clean inoffensive piece of work. I too liked the soft rock thing (Bread was my Ladyz record) but by 79 it was hopelessly out of date.

I'm having trouble equating you two with Bread! And in 1979!!

Joy Division were hardly ideal leg openers.

True. I always preferred Einsturzende Neubauten!

It's George's vocal i like on this album.
What put me off his solo work for a long time , was i just could'nt warm to his reedy vocal style .
But the more i listen to him , the more i'm begining to like his voice .
Can't imagine George singing any other way , and i like his guitar playing and his lyrics are interesting .
This album is certainly as good as John and Paul's efforts a year later with Double Fantasy and McCartney II ?

yeah....this is a great george album,it should be taken for what it is-the soft rock feel and all that jazz.i always get that kind of feeling with georges' stuff-not too interested in being fashionable music-wise,he just wrote songs as and when he felt like it,all to please himself kind-of-thing.although i think it is slightly edgier than a david gates record. ;)

This is one of my fave George efforts.  A wonderfully relaxing album that is perfect to listen to on a warm summer night.  It has a feel all it's own...you can clearly tell George was enjoying life and experiencing one of the few happy periods.  Right after this it all came crashing down as the dreaded limelight was again shone on him after Lennon's murder.

Every single song on here is a gem and a joy in it's own right.  There are VERY few albums ( including Georges'..) that i can put on and let it play from start to finish without jumping over tracks.  'GH' is awesome in it's 'vibeness'.  The soothing tone makes ones' anxiety or daily frustrations melt away into a pool of cool water...and by end one is swimming in exstacy.
