OK, this is gonna cause some arguments!!! Woo hoo!
What do you consider to be THE worst song of all time, by ANY artist, and why?
For my choice (and please send your death threats on a post card please!), I would have to say Bohemian Rhapsody has got to be THE most pretentious pile of poo I ever heard.
I first became aware of this track at school in the dinner queue - a bunch of annoying kids started singing "galleleo" in really high ptiched voices. I knew straight away that that song was pure evil, and I have not swayed from that opinion despite Wayne and Garth's valiant attempts!

Alan nooooooo, how can you say Bohemian Rhapsody is the worst song of all time?? It's one of Queen's best songs!! :( :(
That Galleleo/Opera part is only the middle of the song, but you should hear the beginning, which is Freddy singing with a piano, then the song goes into the opera part and then it ends as a anthemic hard rock song!!
-
Oh My eyes!!! Say it isn't so End. I personally love this song but oh well. To answer your question, I think the Macarena is far worse.
Mama Mia let me go....

As stated above, FARRRRR toooooo many songs to pick one!
-
Way too hard.
Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the best songs ever. :o
-
"Who Let The Dogs Out"! Just catchy enough that my 6 year old daughter caused me to start drinking again!
-
Whoever declares Boheimian Rapsody the worst song off all times should not be walking on this earth. End, I'm sending the hitman as we speak.
-
LOL! :D
Sorry, I knew that would be a controversial choice! But... I DO stand by it I'm afraid ;)
-
Well, ya gotta expect some flack for that one. Are you sure you're not just confusing 'worst' with 'most overplayed'? Even the best songs are being destroyed by AOR radio the last decade or so, totally running the songs into the ground. Pink Floyd, Boston, the list goes on and on.
-

I admire you for standing your ground, but you must have anticipate the flack coming your way. (The mention of BoRAp being the worst, not the post in general)
-
I think that Alan dislikes the middle part of Bohemiam rhapsody which I think it's kinda weird too, but the beggining and the end of the song are amazing.
Also worth checking out is the Bohemiam Rhapsody cover by Elton John and Axl Rose performed live at Wembley Stadium, that version is incredible
-
Anything by 2Pac, Puff Daddy or Snoop Dogg or some other insignificant waste of sperm and egg like that
-
add Milli Vanilli to that list
-
I feel sorry for them...one of them even killed himself :(

Thanks for sticking up for me Bruno... but I actually don't like any of it!!! LOL :)
Thanks anyway though :D
-
Hey, I can dig it. While I don't mind Bohemian Rap there are many popular songs I can't stnad. Well, some anyway.
If I never hear Hey Jude again I'll be happy (but that's from overplay, not the quality of the song itself).
Same with Let It Be (except in that case I can't stand the song in general).
We all have our little fluctuations in taste. It's what makes it interesting.
-
Right now I'd say N.E.R.D. - She wants to move.
I'm one of the least violent persons I know, but that song makes me want to throw the radio through the window.
-
oh yeah we forgot about him!! William Hung sucks
-
With you- Jessica Simpson
-
Oh man, William Hung is so annoying. "She bang she bang!"
-
Express Yourself-Madonna
-
I dont know who sings it but the whole song all it says is... "shut up, just shut up"
I swear those are the only words lol.

Oh yeah, that is really annoying too - The Black Eyed Peas.
-
Oh is it them? I liked the song that they did with Justin Timberlake though...
-
I've heard that song that goes, "Shut up, just shut up." There's also that song "Shut Up" by Kelly Osbourne. Both songs suck.
-
arrrgh, Kelly Osbourne sucks donkey balls, I hate her

i'd have to say "mmmmmm" by the Crash Test Dummies..lol...they really sucked.

I like that song... Even though the lyrics are incredibly dumb.
-
There is a song that starts out "You Da Ho". it's so stupid.
I also hate alot of Eminems stuff. There is just no reason for such inapropriate music.

I LOVE the Crash Test Dummies :(
Mmm Mmm Mmm!!!!!!!!
-
That Crash Test Dummies song is so annoying!
-
It's a great song... all about kids with giant birth-marks, white hair and freaky parents!! LOL ;)
-
here's Alan favorite song ;D :
I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango.
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright'ning me.
(Galileo.) Galileo. (Galileo.) Galileo, Galileo figaro
Magnifico. I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me.
He's just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity.
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go.
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go.
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go.
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go.
(Let me go.) Will not let you go.
(Let me go.) Will not let you go. (Let me go.) Ah.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
(Oh mama mia, mama mia.) Mama mia, let me go.
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me.
-
My second "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!" of the day! LOL ;)
I SO should delete that post!! ;)
-
When I was thirteen I thought that line - "Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me" - was actually - "The Liza boat has a devil boat aside for me." LOL

here's a pic of them, but I don't know which one is millin and which one is vanilli. All I remember is that one of them was called Sixtus Pilatus or something like that
(http://www.diezi.com/boneym/farian/mv.jpg)

Okay, the guy on the left is Fabrice Morvan and the guy on the right is Rob Pilatus. Rob is the one who killed himself. And, I searched this info online...just so no one thinks I'm a Milli Vanilli fan. LOL.

Ooo oo oo-ooh I want you-ooo!!!! ;)

one of the worst songs I've heard :
"Wake me up before you Go-Go" - Wham !

Hey, there's nothing wrong with something or somebody being schizophrenic. What about Wesley Willis? He wrote some of the greatest songs of all time! (Not Kidding. Look him up)

I wouldn't say I like listening to Revolution #9, but I DO find it very listenable. It's fascinating and even humourous in places!

That song that goes "where oh where can my baby be, the lord took her away from me"...the original one from like the 60's or something isn't bad, but the remake from a few years ago SUCKS!! The dude who sings it sounds sooooo bad. He sounds like a dying sheep! That song is unbearable for me to listen to.

Is that one by the Human League? I LOVE that song! :D
-
I think that is Human League. I actually like that song as well.
I heard a really bad song this morning. It was by that 80s band called XTC. I can't remember the name of the song but it sucked.

Was it Making Plans For Nigel?

I don't think so. I just remember something about senses and overload. And I remember them counting in the song, "One two three four five..." I'm probably not much help lol.
-
Ahh... Senses Working Overtime!!!!!! ;D
-
Yes! I was looking up XTC lyrics trying to see if any of the names rang a bell. I even looked under the S's to see if there was a song with Sensory or whatever in the title but skipped right over it haha.
Thanks for clearing that up.
But, yeah...that song sucks. lol

Ahhh! Yes Human League! Oh do I hate that song. I couldn't stand anything new wave like that. Thank god that fads over. Yes, I'd much rather listen to Eddie Vedder wail than to synthesizers and drum machines! ;D
-
Vedder rules. The vocalist of the nineties. Ten....Vs....Vitalogy....No Code...Yield...Binaural.....ten years of great music that has few equals.
-
Chris Cornell is the vocalist of the 90's.
-
Sk8ter Boy-- avril lavigne
-
Who let the dogs out-- baha men
all star-- smash mouth
-
Yes, I agree with you about Who Let the Dogs Out. Not about Sk8er Boi, though. I'm an Avril fan.
The worst song is without a doubt, Jerimiah Was a Bullfrog.
-
Sk8ter Boy-- avril lavigne
the title is Sk8ter Boi
is is the best song from her debut album
-
We Built This City - Jefferson Starship.
i liked them better when they were jefferson airplane and had songs like "somebody to love" and "white rabbit" although jefferson starship was terrible, grace slick is the best female vocalist ever.
i think the worst song is "wannabe" by the spice girls or sguar ray's "Fly." ugh:(
-
The worst song is without a doubt, Jerimiah Was a Bullfrog.
You mean Joy To The World by Three Dog Night? I kinda like that song. :)
-
Yeah, I don't mind that song. If I was going to pick one from them that annoyed me it would be One. I HATE that song. It is the same band isn't it? Worst song ever though:
I Wear My Sunglasses at Night!! UCK! I can't remember who did it.
-
Worst song ever though:

Oh that was Canadian Corey Hart. That song DOES suck. "Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades oh no!" LOL
-
Oh yeah, Corey Hart! Eesh. That one and that 867-5301 Jenny Jenny song! God, what were people thinking?
-
haha I kinda like 867-5309.
What about that Devo song "Whip It"? That's a really annoying song. They play it at the gym I go to and it's a remixed exended version. Arrrgh.
-
Ha! I remember being fascinated with that stupid video! Planters on their heads? How about their cover of Satisfaction!! I can take that more than some of those other new wave songs though! I couldn't stand anything with sythesizers and drum machines. Like the songs they used to play in Molly Ringwald movies. Can't think of one at the moment though.
-
That video for "Whip It" was really weird. When I was younger I had a Chipmunks album and they sang that song on it. LOL.
-
The Chipmunks probably improved it. Simply Red is the band I'm thinking of. They make me want to shove pencils in my ears.
-
Yeah, I've heard of them. Don't they sing a song called "If You Don't Know Me By Now"?
That Chipmunks album rocked. They sang Bette Davis Eyes, Leader of the Pack, Heartbreaker, Jesse's Girl, and Playing With the Queen of Hearts (or is just called Queen of Hearts?)
-
I think they do that one. Not sure. I only ever had the Chipmunks Christmas album! Which was too cool.;D I think they had thier own tv show for a while?
-
"Bohemian Rhapsody" isn't pretentious. It's a great song. Go Queen! <3 Opinions are fab, though. So -- End, though you don't like one of my favourite songs, total props for having an opinion and not geting evil about it.
I dunno who does it, but that "Da Da Da" song...glurgh. I'm all for pointlessness, but not in that exact form.
-
"Bohemian Rhapsody" can get annoying at times, it has to be one of the most commercialized songs of all time.
Does anyone rememeber the pizza commericial where they covered that song? Simply Disgusting.
-
What about that Devo song "Whip It"? That's a really annoying song. They play it at the gym I go to and it's a remixed exended version. Arrrgh.
i'm not sure, but i think the beat of "whip it" is a quicker version of "pretty woman".
i kinda like the song too.
-
Dirrty by Christina Aguilera. Did you know that song flopped on radio? The only reason it charted so high was because of the video. People (horny boys) watched it, probably on mute.

Whip it! haha, what a song 8)

When me and my cousins made whipped cream once, we started singing Whip It and now it's our thing... besides the Chiquita Banana song and our "that's not gear" catchphrase.
Yeah, my family is weird. So?

my family is weird
aha good to know it

...there was a pizza commercial with "Bohemian Rhapsody"?

I like the beat in the song. The lyrics just drive me batty.

Yeah I agree Colleen, its all about the beat 8)
-
the song was about ronald reagan. i don't think the lyrics were suppose to be good.:)
-
Respect by Aretha Franklin.
awful annoying music with even more annoying lyrics sung by the ugliest voice ever!!!
My radio goes off everytime this nasty disgusting making me wanna vomit song comes on.
Bleeeeh!!!
-
Respect is probably one of my favorite songs and Aretha has a very nice voice, powerful too.
-
Are you kidding, jeanie? Respect is an awesome, legendary song. And I think Aretha has a great voice.
-
Nope. Aretha Franklin is so overrated its pathetic. Worst song has got to be "Rock & Roll Part 2" by Gary Glitter. Played all over the place, it makes my skin crawl. I wonder if it would be so prevalent if the powers that be knew it was created by a Pedophile or purveyor of kiddie porn.
-
Boulevourd Of Broken dreams- green day
-
I don't agree with your choice. Mainly because I like Green Day, and the title of thay song is a James Dean movie (and I (heart2 James Dean)
-
Oh come on Boulevard of Broken Dreams is awesome!
I personally have a strong belief that no song is actually BAD.
All songs have their own kind of talent. They all are good in some way.
Now, I think what you all may be talking about is the kind of songs you personally dislike.
However, the way most people are putting it makes it look like the song is bad and everybody else either sees or cannot see that.
So, let us simply have our own tastes. That's what brought us together, the common taste for one of the most spectacular and unique bands ever: The Beatles.
So, each song is good. We may simply dislike it.
Now, carrying on with the topic,
I personally believe Smells Like Teen Spirit is so overrated it makes me sick.
-
Well, I personally believe that "Another Day in Paradise" by Phil Collins makes me want to hide in a closet and shove toilet paper in my ears. That song creeps me OOOUT.... Not sure why. But I hate it.
~ missy
-
Rolling Stone called Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da the worst song of all time.
-
well, sorry for those of you who like Respect....I just can't stand it..my local oldies station plays it all the time..that's why it's so annoying to me.

Yeah, i hate the song too. I was never into Phil Collins. Genesis was better with Gabriel.

Rolling Stone called Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da the worst song of all time.
To quote a previous post of mine, "f*** Rolling Stone. They used to be cool in the sixties, but now it's just $4.95 worth of advertising and pretention."

The new Bannanas song by GWen Stephanie
-
the one with the cheerleaders?
hollaback girl, i believe it's called.lol, i find it a fun tune.
-
I like that one too. I probably wouldn't like it if it wasn't Gwen, though. I have a No Doubt bias.
-
It's spelled Stefani btw. Just pointing that out. :)
-
I actually like Gwen Stefani. She has some cool songs in her solo career.
What You Waiting For, Rich Girl and Hollaback Girl are good songs.
-
i dunno, i just cant imagine the demos of that song. like her reading the lyrics to the producer. "amdnd then i scream this sh*t is bbannanas and spell the word out. brilliant right?"
-
Well, she does keep saying that L.A.M.B. is a dance album. It's not supposed to be particularily deep or anything.
-
She's really the "Cindi Lauper" of your generation. Just jumping around with all her girlfriends havin fun and acting 16 again. She's got a special spot in rock right now.
-
You're right, apple sauce. She does remind me of Cyndi Lauper in a lot of ways. Singing voice, music style, fashion sense, stage antics. (Gotta love all the pogo-ing she does). I think Gwen will be remembered for bringing chick rock back in the '90s.
-
gwen stefani is crap....her solo career is even worse than No Doubt......what you waiting for is annoying, and "Rich Girl" is just what she is
-
I disagree... I really like No Doubt, and her solo career has some fun, catchy songs with great production.
But it's all opinion, I guess.
-
i just cant see how anyone would listen to her music and find it appealing
-
The comparison to Cyndi Lauper is interesting. I could kinda see that actually. So is Brittany the Madonna of their generation or what? Why can't we have a new generation Beatles? I'd even settle for a new generation Rolling Stones. Why is it always the crap music that keeps on going? Have we learned nothing from the 80's?
-
Eww, Britney's no Madonna. Ew. She's just a Madonna wannabe.
At least Madonna wrote her own songs... didn't she? And Madonna also had longievity. Meh. I don't think anyone can really be the next Madonna, since Madonna herslef is always changing and reinventing herself to what's hip.
-
Yeah, but Madonna became more of...."what is she gonna do now??!"..over her music.
Controversy and image..over sound.
Personally, Madonna can bugger off to where she came from..
:)
-
LOL, Indica. Madonna (or should I say Esther) has been trying to clean up her image as of lately, though.
Now if only the Kabbalah trend would go away...
-
She's really the "Cindi Lauper" of your generation. Just jumping around with all her girlfriends havin fun and acting 16 again. She's got a special spot in rock right now.
Does this mean that all the lesbians will be attending her shows?
-
Madonna is probably the least talented whorebag of all time. She's another one that has to attempt to be controversial to get attention, 5,000 dancers/costume changes so that it will distract the audience so they don't notice she can't sing. She certainly can't act. But I have to hand it to her, she has fooled the public for over 20 years as the biggest zero, and has made an incredible fortune doing it.
-
Ouch.
-
Only old people like me would remember
FEELINGS

I honestly like her song, I mean she can sing, and its got a good beat. But then again I think she should stay with Disney, just a thought. She is gonna crash pretty quick here, I don't know how she could get any more famous.

Wow. We might have a winner. I can only do my best to counter with this effort. You pick which is worse, the video or the song.

I hate that song to begin with. I was at Disney World with the kids a few years ago and we did the "It's a Small
World" boat ride, and after a few minutes of the shrill animatronic singing I wanted to throw myelf overboard. UGH.

I love The Shaggs! I think they have a certain charm and like-ability to their music that isn't found today. They were very sincere.
