New book about the Dakota Apartments
« on: May 14, 2014, 06:33:23 PM »

Hi, Everyone.

"The Dakota Scrapbook. Volume 1. Exterior" was just published. As you all know, the Dakota is where John Lennon lived and was murdered. But there is a lot more to know. It was built between 1880-1884. It was one of America's first luxury apartment buildings. It had hydraulic residential elevators, which was a new concept, and its own power plant underground since electricity was new. The rooms in the apartments were enormous. The ceilings of the 1st floor apartments were 15 feet high! The building had its very own restaurant for the strict use of residents and their guests. After all, there weren't restaurants like today and there were no supermarkets. It had its own barber shop in the basement for the use of the guests. It really is an amazing place.

Other residents included Yoko Ono (obviously), Lauren Bacall, Roberta Flack, Rex Reed, Albert Maysles, Judy Garland, Boris Karloff, John Madden, Gilda Radner, Joe Namath, Zero Mostel, and on and on and on.

Check it out at DakotaDocumentary.com or CampfireNetwork.com

I wasn't sure the best place to post this but I just saw and article about Lauren Bacall'r apartment at the Dakota which gives some pics of the interior of typical rooms. http://nypost.com/2015/03/03/the-weirdest-items-up-for-auction-from-lauren-bacalls-estate/?utm_content=buffer62e36&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebookbfi&utm_campaign=buffer
