If only he was alive to slap Yoko's ass around for this. Weren't they supposed to be in love? Now she's using his legacy to her adventage. You can't blame Nike though, they're greedy corporate bas tards.
Lennon Teams With Nike
(08/24/04) -- Thanks to his widow, Yoko Ono, Nike will launch a new line of tennis shoes focused on late Beatle John Lennon. Nike's campaign will feature a recreation of the Beatles' 1969 masterpiece Abbey Road, which shows Lennon donning a pair of white shoes. Lennon's signature will be inscribed on the heel of the sneakers, and lyrics from the song "Imagine" will be scrawled on the toes. Before you start throwing up, remember that all proceeds from the line of shoes will be donated to charity.
Well, at least all the money they make will go to charity. But you really have to wonder if this is going to far, or if John would approve. I generally stick up for Yoko (and I don't think this is a matter of whether or not she loved/loves him, because no one really knows that but Yoko), but this is just...strange. A shoe? Whatever. And remember, Nike is the same corporation that used "Revolution" in their commercials back in the 90's. I wouldn't put anything past them.
And would you buy it, if given the chance?
-
Yoko always seizes at the oppprtunity. If it is true that all the proceeds go to charity, that's perfect, but who knows? Anyway, if this is serves just for people and youngsters to know JOHN and the Beatles and what they did for peace, OK, chapeu!
-
hahahah thats total bull sh*t
you made taht sh*t up
-
When do they come out?
-
Honestly? Who gives a freak. Let her do it. It wouldn't be the First Lennon shoe, and certainly not the first lennon inspired clothing. Yes I'd buy it. Yoko is an extremely good manager, she's made millions, I don't think she's degraded Johns memory in the least. Remember John loved to market himself. does the words "bagism" and "bed in for Peace" ring any bells. This isn't much different.

you have GOT to be kidding, right?????

I'm more or less with Ed. It's just a shoe. John isn't Mother Teresa, he was exploited from his very first record contract...Yoko may be a lot of things but I don't think putting his work on a shoe is blasphemy (tacky? ok.).
-
Well, it is not blaspehmy, of course it is not.
-
I'm going to buy a pair for everyone in my family! ;D
-
i dont like the fact that his face is on trainers either. im sure john wouldn want it if he was alive. it turns him into a brand rather than a person. people wont know anything about him, they'l just know him as that guy o the trainers.
-
JOHN LENNON WAS A BRAND! And he was damned proud of it! All celebs are brands. They market themselves, sell themselves, etc. He wouldn't give a rats ass about this! Yoko was given control of family finances BEFORE he died, and she did a good jobs of bringing it all in. WHY/HOW is this different??
-
Ill buy them if theyre not like insanely priced, but i bet they are. And I'm sure John wouldnt have minded this, all proceeds are going to charity and he always supported Yoko's choices in that field.
-
hmmmmm....*shakes head*
-
well maybe. but i dont see him as a brand in the same way i would see coca cola or whatever. an nike are hardly some moral company. John will have probably seen the funny side to it i suppose. his face being on peoples trainers. there's nothing wrong with it, i agree with charlie, its just a bit tackie.
-
I'd buy them, well, depending on what they look like, and why does the shoe sound like the John Lennon Converse shoe, which, by the way, I own. You know if putting John's name on a tennis shoe (despite the tacky aspect of it) gets his name out there for kids/teens to hear then I'm all for it. The more products with John's name on it, the more people are exposed to his name and likeness and therefor the more people will become interested and thus forms new John fans. And if the money truely is going to charity then that makes it even better. I say go for it.
-
Huh? Another sneaker? Let's see, who will be next, Adidas or Rebok.
-
I dont like nike that much now... Id rather have John's face in a Vans or Airwalk lol
