OMG, fendertele, it's almost identical to the winegum advert - good eye/ear! I wonder if the same producer did both ... anyone know if this is the case (I did a quick google search and didn't find anything)?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Got_My_Mind_Set_on_You   Interesting to note that the song was written in 1962, I think George has said that was the happiest musical period of his life, nice that he went back to that. Also interesting to note that the dancer in the break is a young Bob Geldof, easy to see when you look for it*. Finally, apparently the last #1 in the US for any Beatle ... go George!

Hey Fendertele ... it seems that George is playing the 3 chords of the song in about a million different ways on the fretboard. Are all those fingerings legit, or is it "miming" to an excessive degree? If it is real (which I suspect), is it that impressive that he knows all those ways to play the same chords, or is that pretty much expected to be in every experienced guitarist's skill set? I remember there was a song in the 80s, "Shieks of Sultan" I think, had a line like "Guitar George, he knows all the chords", I always wondered if this was an homage to our George ...

*Just kidding about that being Bob Geldof, but it looks like him a bit! The Wikipedia link gives the name I think, some guy named Tony Blair ...

"You check out guitar george he knows all the chords
Mind hes strictly rhythm he doesnt want to make it cry or sing" - Sultans of swing - Dire straits

its a reference to player called George Borowski.

I like the video, but I think the song is awful. George didnt even write it and was still a hit for him so what do I know.

Well, you know what you like, and so do I. This song is a "miss" for me-- I don't care for it at all. Which shows once again how out of step I am with so many #1 tunes. I did think the video was cute in a surreal way, loved the fake George dancing, but wished so many of the critters didn't look so obviously dead and dried out.

Hey FenderTele - Thanks for the George Borowski reference. The computer code didn't come out right, I think, but that's OK.

But hey, help me out please with all the fingering of the chords he does in that video! Are they all legit!? Is it really impressive he knows all those fingerings, or is it just de rigeur for any reasonably good guitarist? Enquiring (inquiring?) minds want to know!

Thanks!

From watchinf the video these were the chords i saw him playing, so i played them over a drum beat and recorded it, i think it sounds about right, but there could be extra chords i missed, plus its hard to tell as the guitar is really hidden in the mix

[sound]http://www.filefreak.com/pfiles/84600/mind.mp3[/sound]

just realised the drums go on for another minute or two without any guitar lol

Chords chorus: C#m G#7( like the taxman chord) C#m, E B E

Verse : E A B

Yes, I also think the 80s are to blame for the video.

I always thought this video was completely HILLARIOUS! Not as amazing as Crackerbox Palace but still good.
My favorite part is when he jumps up and does a back flip it is so obviously not George which makes in 10 times funnier.

Whether he liked it or not, whose to say, but George. All I know is it probably pleased the public because it was hillarious.
And I like the squirrel playing the sax at the end. This video is just soooo funny! :D

Well, hh, you gotta listen to the song several times.  Then you'll like it just fine.  Who cares if it's just six words anyway?   :)

I like the song, it`s funny and merry and good for a little dancing. And George seems to be happy singing it, which warms my heart.

I do like this video, even if it is dorky and very 80's.  The very best part is "George" dancing...how very "Flashdance" of him! ;D

Well, here it is!  This is James Ray's 1962 recording of Got My Mind Set On You which inspired George Harrison....

I Got My Mind Set On You was written by Rudy Clark.  He also wrote The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss), If You Gotta Make a Fool of Somebody, Good Lovin', Everybody Plays The Fool and co-wrote Do The Monkey with Bobby Darin.

You're welcome, Mairi.  A little calypso in there, huh?

For your listening pleasure, here's James Ray doing If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody in 1961:

If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody-James Ray-1961

And Freddie And The Dreamers doing it in 1965.  Paul McCartney, in an interview, said that they stole The Beatles' arrangement.  Evidently, The Beatles performed it one night in Manchester and by the next day, Freddie And The Dreamers had added it to their repertoire:

Freddie & The Dreamers - If You Gotta Make A Fool (1965)

And so The Beatles stopped doing covers.  Well, for a while anyway.  ;)
