Heheheh...Well done Netherlands...1st team through.
England had the same poor run in 1990 and went onto the semi-finals that year, so it's not all doom and gloom just yet. Fickle fans, if England win the next game, all will be fine again in the world of the press and opinion. Perhaps Fabio Capello is just increasing Italy's odds and taking the money! lol
England have worn me down over the years, so it's hard to get involved in the highs and lows....I would not invest that emotion till at least past the first group stage.

England has perhaps the strongest national competition on earth and they always have an impressive national team on paper... Weird that they haven't played a single final match since 1966. I really do hope they make it to the second round now.

Every two years, the Dutch get eliminated sometime in the knockout phase and then the whole world says it's a pitty cause they played so well... Well, so far they're trying hard to make sure that's not going to happen again...  ;D

Your right Joost, expectation is always high but it never seems to gel....The team are having a big meeting with Cappello tonight. Let's hope they all don't do an Anelka.
That was a bit harsh on Kaka earlier. Shame, a poor decision and a world class player less to watch.

Forgiveness is in our nature Dirk. ;) Whoever wins has a hard path to the final. It's a shame England couldn't bang any more goals in against Slovenia. I would have much preferred Ghana.

Both finalists from 2006 are already gone...

I'm not saying Slovakia will be easy, but I'm glad we're (probably) playing against them instead of Italy.

It's not really funny anymore, is it? How long can Blatter keep technology from the fields?

The whole complexion of the match would have changed if that perfectly good goal had stood and the teams went in at half-time with the scores level at 2-2.
Germany looked rattled for a while but scoring their third goal gave them a two-goal cushion; Germany relaxed after that and England all but gave up.
If Germany had scored and it went to 3-2, then there would still have been a lot of tension in the game and a lot to play for. England would have been fighting for an equaliser rather than giving up.

Having said that though, Germany were/are definitely the better side, and they actually have a chance of going on and winning the tournament, which is something I wouldn't say about England.
Even if England had scraped a victory against the Germans we would have been humiliated by Argentina in the next round, or by Brazil or Spain in the following rounds.
We do have some world-class players such as Rooney and Gerrard, but they didn't perform as well as they could. And I don't think the likes of Heskey, Upson and Johnson fall into the category of "world-class".

Even tho one could say that Germany and Argentina were the better teams yesterday, the way things went is just not right. But I guess Blatter rather sees a picture of Messi with the cup than Hernandez with the cup in the end if you catch my drift. Corruption within the FIFA is the talk of the town.
