Best Bass Player..?

Who do you think is the bass player between these choices? I probably missed a lot, so you can still mention your favorite...
And no I did not include McCartney, only because this is a Beatles board...

I think he's one of the "least" best bass player in that list...but still good...but thats only my opinion...
IMO waters was more of a songwriter than a bass player...

I picked Levin, even though my personal fave is Geddy Lee (from Rush)

For me It's a close one between Bruce & Sheehan...but I voted billy sheehan...they call him the eddie van halen of bass...I saw him live this year he plays in steve vai's band and i was amazed, he was really good...but not everyone is into that music though...fast fingering and tapping etc...still fun to listen sometimes :)..
Jaco pastorius is very good too, great jazz bassist...

I picked John Entwistle and for me it really is no contest. John Entwistle really brought bass playing to the forefront and his picking was amazing.

Tony Levin's a sick bass player too. I saw Peter Gabriel a while back and he was playing. What a great show!

Jaco was so much better than the rest of that list that this poll should be locked immediately!

jaco was in a different league from the other guys  -- sorta like hendrix as a guitarist.

But of the rock players here I'd go with Entwhistle.

I know Jaco is amazing, but its all taste..Bruce for me :)
I respect all the fast finger tapping..runs etc..but for me..hitting the right notes instead of all of em..shows greater skill 8)

stu?

not quite sure about that one. it's a fact that he couldn't play, but he was a great artist :-D then again....perhaps you were being sarcastic, i don't know

others i might nominate are probably chris squire, larry graham, and james jamerson.

Paul McCartney: good but no virtuoso
Krist Novoselic: very average bass player
Stuart Sufcliffe: absolutely terrible bass player
Noel Reading: playing with the world's greatest guitarist doesn't automatically make you a great bass player
