Counting discs

(1/2) > >>

Joost:
Which bands are best represented in your cd/record collection? This is my top 25. I simply counted discs, so each cd or vinyl record counts as one, a single counts just as heavily as an album, a double LP counts as two, a five cd box set counts as five, etc.

1. The Beach Boys (260)
2. The Beatles (74)
3. NOFX (56)
4. Red Hot Chili Peppers (49)
5. Elvis Presley (39)
6. Beastie Boys (35)
6. Brian Wilson (35)
8. Nirvana (32)
9. Paul McCartney (30)
10. Green Day (29)
11. Cat Stevens (28)
12. Bad Religion (27)
13. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (24)
14. The Doors (22)
15. Elliott Smith (21)
15. Henry Rollins (21)
17. Doe Maar (18)
17. Shelter (18)
17. The Vandals (18)

oldbrownshoe:
Mercifully honed the collection down to about 300 CDs (still more than I need by about 100) and about the same number of LPs, though they're about to be severely trimmed.
I tend to do genres more than individual acts anyway (blues, rock 'n' roll. 50s modern jazz).
The most I have would be about 10 Stones' CDs.

Working up the confidence to finally get Dylan down to one (from 3)...i.e. the only one I ever listen to, and plan to ever listen to again. Hope to have done that by the end of July, but it'll take a supreme leap of faith!
My motto: Less is more.

Doesn't work for me. I once sold a few CDs and ended up buying all of them again, so I don't think I'll ever do that again. I just get attached to CDs and records, even if I very rarely listen to them. I just like knowing that I have them, and that I can listen to them and look at them whenever I want. And sometimes I just pull out a record that I haven't heard in years and I discover something nice that I'd forgotten about or didn't notice before. That's always cool.
