I don't like CSNY's or Joni's version, but I absolutely LOVE this one.
Matthews Southern Confort - Woodstock

Nice version of the song.

Getting ourselves back to the garden, that's the dream.

So many memories attached to this song. i was in upstate NY, back in the summer of 1969, and I fondly remember seeing all those freaks hitchhiking their way to Woodstock. Then, the next summer, my uncle told me that the CSNY song was about these people we saw last year etc... what a great period of time that was. :'(

what a great period of time that was. :'(

I'm sure it was... I dare to say that these three days were probably among the proudest moments in the history of mankind. You've got half a million people piled up in a huge puddle of mud, with hardly any food or water, with bands playing about half a day behind scedule and with a lot of people being out of their minds on all kinds of substances - and still there were hardly any incidents. Amazing. That truely must have been a verry muddy heaven on earth.

I'm having a bit of a Woodstock obsession the last couple of months. I've read the books 'The Road to Woodstock' and 'Taking Woodstock', I saw the movie 'Taking Woodstock' about five times and I'm listening to CSNY almost every day.

I love this song which is considered the "unofficial anthem" of Woodstock.

Oh yeah. I remember being a teenager, listening to Carry on – such great vocal harmonies – holding in my hands the lush first edition of Déjà Vu in fake leather. BTW, the live Four Way Street version is not bad either.

Yeah.  They're a little portly.  They're not getting any younger.

Here they are at Madison Square Garden in 2006...

CSNY Ohio-1

Stephen Stills can still play that solo the way he did in 1970.

For a while there I didn't think David Crosby would be around to not get any younger. He's still here in spite of himself and with more than a little help from his friend.

I love the song Southern Cross, couldn't stop singing it for such a long time. The way the harmonies work is amazing, sorry but I'm not fussed if Neil Young is in/out!  ;sorry
