Been following this on another music forum.

I think All You Need Is Love is the worst one he did.

He just seems to give up and the orchestra takes over.

There is much worse than 'All You Need Is Love'.  I'm walking out the door now, but i'll get back to this.

A couple off the top of my head - Long Tall Sally, I Call Your Name, Baby In Black, What Your Doing, etc.

Yes All You Need is Love is a weird one. I wondered if he was only supposed to play the two phrases but started a third then realised. Or he just bumped a string.  I wonder why  they just didn't edit out that last little bit. It does sound like he just lost interest.  ha2ha

The I'll Follow the Sun solo was one of the worst too. Just a few little slides following the melody. Bad Boy is scratchy too although redeems itself a bit at the end on the low strings.

Baby I'm Black is a probably his weirdest.  Long Tall Sally has two solos and I think the first is played by John although I'm not 100% sure. Neither solo is particularly great anyway.

I think in All You Need Is Love the first phrase starts ok, the second phrase is slightly off key and the the third base is jjust a pluck where he completely lost it.
I think makes it bad or worse is that it was played live in front of a worldwide audience ....John's song deserved a better solo. ;D

I agree with you Moog about I'll follow the sun. That comes in at number 2 for me

I quite like what he did on baby's in Black it's kind of waltzy, although he does drift of key again slightly on some notes, it must have driven a perfectionist like George Martin crazy.

As Ringo so famously said...

..."There's more here than meets the eye."

George contributed a lot to What You're doing.  He played the riff heard throughout the song on his Rickenbacker 360/12.  His solo, also on the Rickenbacker 360/12, was played in harmony with his strumming.  Harmonizing 12-string guitars made the solo, in my opinion, sound very special.

This was how it was played...
