Although he died over 20 years ago, I don't like to think of John as an icon PURELY of the sixties and early seventies, so what picture is there of him that looks the LEAST dated in terms of photography?
I don't mean most recent, I mean one than LOOKS the most modern.
-
I don't know what you mean.. You mean one where he looks more avant-garde?
-
It's kind of hard to say. I personally never thought about it. I always look at John's style as "his own" and never judged it in the context of the time period he was living in. He was really hip with the way he dressed, anyway.
I'd probably think that the most "modern" pics are probably him around the late 70s, though not because its closest to our time. I thought he started to dress more "conservatively" as opposed to the white suits, plaid sweater vests, striped pants, etc. He was getting more into wearing nice casual clothes and jackets and having his shirt unbuttened a little, which is kind of sexy.
I also have a book where he wears some awesome sandals with a pair of khakis and a red shirt unbuttenened a little. Its pretty modern if you ask me. I'll try and find some pics, but probably not the specific ones I'm referring to.

After the Beatles, in all successive photos I saw of him he looked different. He always looked cool to me.

That 2nd one is cool Hannah

Well, JOHN always hasd a different style of dressing, if we except when he had to wear the suits compulsory. By the time of Rubber Soul, if you look at the cover, you see he's wearing that brown velvet jacket that drives me crazy. And in the psychedelia period, he always singled out from the rest, I think.

I have a book called the "John Lennon Family Album" and in there is a ton of pics of John, Yoko, Sean, Julian in various places in the late 70s. It is my opinion that John looks ULTRA modern in these pics. He has a very relaxed look, and his style is kind of how some guys dress when they are going on vacation- I mean, like , those tropical type shirts, sandals, shorts, etc. Personally, I think he looks gorgeous in this book.
One thing I did notice was that John lost a HELL of a lot of weight from his Beatles days. Its nothing new to anyone, but when you look through this particular book you'd never think the guy once had a fairly strong physique. He's kind of on the extremely skinny side, but in a good way I guess. I find him super sexy throughout. Go and find this book. :)

what exactly does 'modern' mean here?
-
I think JOH lost too much weight for my tastes...
-
Yeah, he did get kind of on the super-skinny side...but I still think he looked great. :)
-
Yes, he did look grear, but he was much better in the 60s
-
I agree with Sadie4, he did look much better in the 60's but I still love John :-) the way he turn out after
