British Vrs. English words

Yeah, being from Australia, we have all the same words as in England. So lift, nappy, tea and lollypop man/lady is what Im used to. If someone over here says elevator or diaper it's kinda like "err, what are you on about?" Like we do know, but we use all the English words.
But with some of my friends, they also think when I say im going to tea (dinner) they assume it's the drink and get a bit confused.

Fries are known as "chips".....Ringo said so in a Simpsons episode (Season 2, "Brush with Greatness")
