Yoko singing on "Luck of the Irish" about the world being one big blarney stone is a true low point--taking an otherwise decent protest song and just ruining it with "land of Eire" cliches.

"John Sinclair" and "New York City" are almost there as songs, but just feel kinda half-finished.

"Woman is the black person of the World"--what can I say.  "We make her paint her face and dance"--I guess John wasn't into subtlety at this period (according to his FBI file, he was too into drugs to be considered a real "threat").  Of all the things you could say about the subjugation of women (not just in America, but around the world), this is a pretty sophomoric analysis.  It's about as bad as Jefferson Airplane's "You're Only Pretty as You Feel."

Just compare WITNOTW with what Patti Smith would record a few years later.

Agreed on the Blarney Stone cliche... you'd have though John (being so proud of the Irish in him) would have said "err Yoko, that's pretty sh*t lyric writing there."

The album in terms of a production though could do with re-mastering and remixing too, so it will probably sound all the more pleasing.

Is Surprise Surprise a cover of the Stones or just a coincidence?

Cover of the remastered Walls And Bridges. What about that 'Yoko turning into John' thing on the disc? Yoko wasn't even involved in the making of WAB.

Wasn't that on the original vinyl? I think I remember it was, which if so its how John wanted it

Could be, I haven't got the original vinyl. The cover is different, isn't it? I thought it was originally a childhood painting of John's. By the way, looking again, you could also conclude that Yoko's face is turning into an apple at the end.

Yes, the cover was wierd. It had little foldy bits that allowed you to make a variety of faces (like those kids games). Can't remember if it was gatefold, but the childhood painting (of football I think) was on the front .
I really want to hear it again now.

The faces were on the 'Sometime...' Albums. 'Walls and Bridges' just had the Apple logo. If anything, they should have his face turning into May Pang for 'Walls'.

Yes. Then it is a worry she's chosen to stick her face on this. I used to feel sorry for Yoko, but man, every day it gets a little harder.

We may forget about her if she doesn't make her presence known every 2 weeks or so.

I don't have the 'Sometime...' album handy, but I seem to remember John's face turning into Yoko's. That she has her face turning into his, seems kind of, I don't know, maybe a subconscious display of how she blended into and took him over. That may be a stretch, but it seems significant in a weird way. I bought the 'Walls' CD today and when I saw that most of the songs had been remixed, I was horrified, especially after what they did to 'Mind Games' (the song). So far it sounds pretty faithful to the original.

Not wanting to defend her, but the original W&B cover was pretty sh*tty. Having John on the cover identifies it as a Lennon product  (he is a brand now, after all), and maybe it will entice a few shelf-browsing newbies to check it out.
