Title: White Album
Post by: Marcel on March 03, 2004, 07:47:09 PM
Just registered yesterday and noticed that no one has posted something on the White Album in the records category.

This album is my favorite record. So much great songs all on one (actually two) record.

Anyone else feels the same way as I do?

Welcome Marcel,

Yes, I love that Album/CD as well.  I love it so much that I bought the 30th aniversary issue even though I already had the first cd release.

My favorite songs of the album are almost every song, but I have to admit that I find Revolution 9 a weird 'song'...

Sexy Sadie, Glass Onion, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Rocky Raccoon and Helter Skelter are in my opinion the best songs on the album. But as I said before almost every song is great (and there aren't many bands that can say that of their releases!).

Marcel

PS there must be other 'freaks' out here that also love to collect all takes being made of the songs on this album, right?

The White Album is creatively, musically & artistically the Beatles true rock & roll masterpiece more so than the highly overrated Sgt. Pepper.

Yep, that's me! I try to collect all the different takes for all their albums! And I too bought the 30th Anniversary issue even though I had the standard issue already! That means I have that album 4 times now... original Mono vinyl, original Stereo vinyl plus the 2 CD issues!

My favourite tracks are Back In The USSR, Dear Prudence, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Birthday, Julia, I Will, Black Bird, Sexy Sadie, Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey and MOST OF ALL Cry Baby Cry.

The End: I am pretty jealous man... 4 times the White album... I presume you have the UK versions (both mono and stereo)? What about buying the US albums as well :-) And the Japanese versions and well all of them (Korean/French/German etc) Or are you not that mad :-)

I only have the 30th ann. version... But I have tons of mp3-files of course! (Sorry Ringo and Macca ;-)

So I am not the only freak :-) Always nice to know I am not alone...

Marcel

PS What do you all think of Helter Skelter (take 2) - It's on ANTH 3? It's a quit version... Pretty nice actually although I prefer the album version...

No, I'm not quite as mad as that! I'm restricting myself to just the UK pressings of all their LPs... unless there are slightly different versions on a foreign issue (such as the American version of I'll Cry Instead which has an extra verse!).

I could NEVER afford to collect every single issue.... plus my house ain't big enough!!! :)

I think the White Album is one of their best albums, when it comes to creativity and reinvention. My faves are wild honey pie, while my gutair gently weeps, i'm so tired, Happiness is a warm gun, and Helter Skelter.

I really love the White album for somthing completely different. It's excellent. "Why don't we do it in the road"  is a good track I reckon :) Anyway, all the songs are pretty catchy. Wild Honey Pie is cool, me and my brother often sing to it. Revolution no 9 is innovative...yes, that is how i'll put it. Hehe.

"The white Album was the tension Album," said Paul. "We were all in the midst of the psychedelic thing, or just coming out of it.  There was a lot of friction. It was the weirdest experience because we were about to break up; that was tense in itself."

Little tid-bit- The white album was the best-selling double album of all time, until the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was released in 1977.

Ringo got so fed up with the bickering during the recording of the white album that he walked out and didn't come back for two weeks.  When he did return, everyone was so happy to see him that they covered his drums with flowers and put up "Welcome Back Ringo!" signs.

Sorry, it was a bad joke. You asked what the best selling album was before Saturday Night Fever. Sarah already stated that the White Album was a best seller until Saturday Night Fever so your question was answered before you asked. Again, sorry. It was just lame humor.

I'll still go with Rumours or Dark Side.

Actually "George Martin" begged the Beatles to reduce the songs on the white lp! For being true Beatles rock and roll they have a hell of a lot of ballads on the lp. I don't think Sgt. Pepper is a "rock lp" persay but neither is the white lp. I always thought one of the coolest things about the Beatles is they only gave you the "cream of the crop" on their lps! Just a few choice songs! This doesn't occur on the white lp! WE get way too many middle of the road songs! If the lp had been limited to 12 songs  it would have been a stronger lp. (Only my humble opinion)

The White Album is also my favourite Beatles album, however the compositions on Sgt. Pepper from a musician's perspective are a lot more sophisticated (since there are a lot of simple or acoustic songs on White) and the album shows the Beatles working as more as a band, whereas in White they mostly wrote all of their own individual compositions.
