I think PPM would have benefitted if...
« on: October 01, 2006, 01:20:33 AM »

Although I carry a POV that PPM was a great way to start the Beatles' professional career, I think the album could have benefitted with a few track changes.  I would have removed Ask Me Why as a Lennon/McCartney composition and replaced it with One After 909 -- the version on the Anthology would have been a very cool rocker, yet a bit different in approach than their others.

As far as covers, I would have replaced A Taste of Honey with Besame Mucho since I just like the second much better (A Taste of Honey is a throwaway, I think).

With that, PPM would have been a stronger start for the Beatles and a better album overall.

Your thoughts?

I hate Besame Mucho.
Leave PPM alone.
And keep 909 for Let It be...it's one of the best tracks on there.

Boys ccould definately be replaced. If any changes could've been made, it would've been replacing Boys.

I agree with putting Some Other Guy on there.

Put anything in its place.

The thing is that I'm trying to keep with the 8 originals/6 covers, Harrison and Ringo getting a song routine.  On all their albums with 6 covers, Ringo had one (I say that because HDN had no Ringo song), and the lads liked having Ringo do a song.

Although I just edited my post, agreeing with the lennonlegend post about Some Other Guy, you do have a good point about the Ringo thing.

It's always been a mystery to me that they never recorded Some Other Guy. It would have sounded great following I Saw Her Standing There.
