Tom Jones, definitely! Roy Head seemed too P.J. Probyish for my tastes. But maybe I'm biased since I've always loved Tom Jones.

How funny, Kelley, because you and I are almost always in agreement.  :)  I've never been able to bear Tom Jones, so I'd opt for the Roy Head version (boy, is he limber!).

Now I'm off to Google P.J. Proby.  ;D

You think that was limber, Kathleen, watch what he can do when he's not confined to a small circular riser...

Did you find him? I heard he split his pants on TV and was never heard from again.  ;D

I did find him on Wikipedia but didn't see anything really interesting about him; I'll have to dig further.  ;)

One thing I was surprised to learn is that the song Tainted Love was originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1965. All these years I've thought it was a Soft Cell original.

I loved that song! That was my first year of college, I guess. I have come across the original version but I couldn't have told you who did it. I like that too but the version she released in '76 doesn't do much for me. It sounds pretty typical of that time, though.

Gloria Jones tried twice with that song...

The 1976 version was produced by Marc Bolan.  Both singles failed to chart.  The world wasn't ready for stuff like that, I reckon.   :(

Dionne Warwick recorded a demo in 1963 and this in 1967...

Yes, she does. That's another song I really love. I wonder why I never heard of Lou Johnson before this. He's great!

He recorded several Bacharach/David songs in the 60s...

But Dionne Warwick was always around to make big hits out of them...
