On Air – Live at the BBC Volume 2
« on: March 21, 2015, 11:23:26 PM »

I just ordered this one online from an auction site. How is it? I thought $15 with free shipping was a good deal for this double CD set.

Do you have the first volume?

Yes, I have the first volume and I like it. Is Volume 2 just as good?

I think Vol 1 is essential. Well over half the songs were ones that the Beatles didn't record. There were some great performances. In vol 2 you're largely getting performances of stuff they did on singles, EPs and albums. It's fine if that's what you want but I didn't find it nearly as interesting as Vol 1.

I agree that volume 1 is the better of the two. However, there are some good moments on the second one and I'm not sorry I bought it.

What are your favourites on volume 2? Interested to see which made most impact. I haven't listened to it for a while.

I listened to it all again and there really isn't a lot that would make me say it's as good as the first one but I do enjoy the inclusion of "I'm Talking About You". It sounds better than what I had. I like disc 1 better than disc 2. I know it's mostly just different versions of what we got with the first volume but I enjoy them. On disc 2 they lost me with all the double-tracking. That's not really my favorite thing to begin with and it just sounds like it wasn't done that well here. Really, what grabbed me at first with volume 1 and what I continue to like here is the chat parts. They make me laugh and give the listener more of a "being there" feeling.

Agree with that. They seem so enthused and turned on. I tend to enjoy the chatty parts as much or more so than the actual tunes.

Thanks Kelley. That's interesting. I don't have the cd anywhere handy and I never uploaded it to iTunes so I can't listen to it just now. I'll have to dig it out for another listen some time.
