Octopus's garden
« on: March 26, 2004, 04:27:38 AM »

I read on a website that this song was almost entirely rewriten by George. It's obvious it has some Harisonian influence it some parts but, ¿to what extent is this true?

You can see George and Ringo working on this song in the Let It Be film - but the bit George is seen helping him with is not in the finished version of the song!

Ringo wrote the song whilst on holiday in Sardinia - he was on a boat trip and was told that Octopusses make gardens under the sea! Awwww how cute!!!

So, George didn't rewrote the hole song as if it were badly written, the just worked together in it?

Nice song, pretty good guitar, would have been an awesome song if Harrison wrote it though.

I wasn't aware that there was a version of Octopusses Garden with George singing! I would LOVE to hear that! I have heard George's It Don't Come Easy though, and yeah, it is awesome :)

The thing is, this was written using VERY elementary chords - and that doesn't sound George-like does it!? George's songs generally had quite complex chord structures.

It has been pretty widely bootlegged - so you shouldn't have any trouble picking it up at a Record Fair or on eBay.

George helped ringo a little bit. It was Ringo's Idea. he wrote all the lerics but was having problems on some of the backup so he got george the greatest guitarist ever to help him out.

I'm not sure if this is 100% true. I just read it somewhere. but any way most books give the credit to Ringo.
