Muse
« on: April 13, 2007, 10:30:43 AM »

I'm just wondering what people think about muse.

Personally, I rather like them- though I didn't really care for them until I saw them live at Glastonbury Festival a few years back. I think the lead singer + guitarist- Matt Bellamy is exceptionally talented- and he plays the piano amazingly too. I just think theyre a really creative group and their inspirations from classical music show through. I've heard people call it 'rock music for clever people' haha

anyway, opinions?

Yeah - I've just got hold of their latest album (?) Black Holes & Revelations.
The second track 'Starlight' is fantastic. The heavy fuzz bass goes perfect with the light airy feel of the piano.
I tend to think most of the songs sound the same, as his voice is very 'samey' - but it doesn't take away from the range or power he can muster up.

Yeh I definately know what you mean about his voice being quite 'samey' - but I reckon it's more varied on the album 'absolution'  :) Interesting fact: when his throat was examined, it was discovered that he has a woman's vocal chords! Might explain how he can sing high so easily!

I dig em but I'm from UK..Not a huge fan but their cover of Nina Simones 'Feelin Good' is a great way for anyone new to get a feel of them as a band. They kinda remind me of a cross between Jeff buckley & Radiohead. That can't be a bad thing and they are all accpmplished musicians.

I love this band! Great rock Music!
I have all albums and each of them is something special for me. Though the first one I don't like much. Matt is really great man!
I wish I could see them live sometimes, even on DVD.

I've got "New Born" and "Bliss" on my iPod, I love those two songs. But I just can't listen to an entire album. Muse is great for 15 minutes tops, but I can't stand them much longer. They're just too much, too over-the-top.

I do think it's great how they manage to create such a massive sound (even live) with just three people. Their frontman is incredibly talented and they've got one of the most grooving bass players in rock music. And you gotta love a band that combines Radiohead with Rage Against The Machine...  :)

Really been getting into Rage Against the Machine.

Playing some of their songs is one of the most enjoyable practice sessions I've had in a long time :)

Yeah I love Muse, I got to see them earlier on in the year at the Australian Big Day Out festival, they are definitely something special. My favourite album of theirs would be Absolution I would say.

Man, I was a HUGE Rage Against The Machine fan when I was 16. One of the main reasons why I started playing guitar was because I wanted to learn how to play Killing In The Name. I kinda forgot about them for a few years, but lately I've been listening to their first two albums a whole lot.

Muse really reminds me of RATM at times. Especially their heavy bass grooves and their guitar solos.

Yeah - Killing in The Name Of & Bullet In Your Head are two personal favourites to rock out to :)
The guitar solos are amazing - his technique where he taps the pickup (?)
and the funky bass and pounding drums are so locked in.

ooohhh! quick get tickets!!! (or have you already?)

Looks like I'm going to have to wait ages until they next perform in the UK. I'm awaiting release of their Wembley concert DVD so I can re-live it :)

By the way in case anyone is interested, I read that Muse have started work on their new album- in which they are going to be experimenting with 'dance' music and with using an orchestra in their songs. Also, they are going to produce their new album themselves (guess they must have sacked their producer or something!) and have basically completely taken over the studio so they have as much control over the finished result as possible. I for one cannot wait to hear the results!

Marvelous, unforgettable, super concert was in Moscow on the 15th of October!
I was there and it was the most rockers show I've seen :)
Music was loud and clear, visual effects was beautiful, Muse was on their top level!
They sounded even better than on records.
I and other people have made pictures http://picasaweb.google.com/dsmurashev/MuseInMoscow/
Hope to upload video soon...
