Title: Herman's Hermits
Post by: Starr on May 02, 2006, 12:31:49 AM: Any Herman's Hermits fan out there? I've seen them in concert 11 times and have met Peter Noone he's a really cool guy!! :)

I gotta think they had some good session guys playing on their tunes, such as the banjo on Mrs. Brown. I tried to link to the cover of an album of theirs done by Frank Frazetta, but it wouldn't show for some reason. Looks collectible to me.

Post by: Starr on May 06, 2006, 06:14:05 PM: They do put on a great show though, I've seen them in concert 10 times soon to be 11 and it just gets better and better, Peter Noone has a great personality and is great to his fans, he knows who I am before I introduce myself, now how many celebrities take the time to get to know their fans? I have lots of respect for Peter, he's wonderful!!

Post by: apple sauce on October 21, 2006, 11:21:57 AM: "Listen People" is one of my fvorote songs from the 60s! Peter had such a great voice and most of their songs were very very catchy! The Hollies seemed to be intertwined with this band from the same era! Similar sound same direction.

I think their songs were portrayed as more "fun" then the Hollies material. I'm Henery The 8th, Mrs. Brown, along with Dandy were all sweet little pop songs destin for am radio!

Post by: The End on October 26, 2006, 11:59:48 AM: I think they were more successful in America than the UK and some of their songs seem purposely geared to the US market. With its love of all things British at the time it seems HH recorded some songs that were deliberately overly British, such as "Mrs Brown..." and especially "Henry VIII" for the US.

They're a bit too syrupy for my taste but if you were 13 and American at the time I can see the appeal - The Beatles were growing up and leaving a gap in the market.

They did make some dreadful songs in my opinion and although their version of "I'm Into Something Good" is a classic, it's still not a patch on Earl Jean's original (IMO)!

Some of their songs just make me cringe - "Silhouetes" and "No Milk Today" for example, but there is no denying the quality of "A Kind Of Hush".

Micky Most did a good job!
