Tidbit About John's Childhood

Today I learned:
According to a witness named Billy Hall (a friend of Alfred Lennon's in the 1940's), it is false that John Lennon as a child had to choose whether to live with his father or mother. Billy says Julia and Alf went in a room together to talk alone, with no yelling, then Alf came out and said "I'm letting Johnny go back with his mother-she's going to look after him properly." There was also no solidified plan of Alf taking John to New Zealand. It was all talk. Then, as we know, Julia dropped John off at Mimi's and that was that. SOURCE: "Tune In, Vol. 1" by Mark Lewisohn.

Makes me wonder what else is false about the Beatles!

I think Lewisohn has already busted quite a few myths. The stories of the dealings with Decca and the take up of the Beatles by George Martin were, if not exactly myths, certainly very simplified before Lewisohn dug into it.  Trouble is even the surviving Beatles tend to repeat rote stories which aren’t always accurate. Or at least leave out a fair bit.

I googled that to see too as we are all hanging out to read it!  Next volume due out in 2020 and the third one in 2028  ??? roll:)

Well, 2020 promises to be a good year. Our mortgage will be paid off and then this. ;D

When volume 3 comes out a few of us will probably be dead!

And in 2028 Mark Lewisohn will be 70 years old so he may not even have time to finish his book!

I’m not planning on going anywhere! I think Mark looks pretty good so I’m betting on reading this when I’m 65. ;)
