HMV's Over priced new release!!!!!!!!
« on: May 01, 2005, 02:17:51 PM »

I was just on "HMV" and noticed you can advance order "Coldplay's" new cd for only like $36.00 Canadian? No wonder everbody is burning cds off the internet when HMV expects you to pay that kind of money for a cd? I checked the track listing they are offering 12 songs and didn't see an extra dvd included? Is this for real???????

Yeah. I've never looked at one, but I've got a Canadian friend -- she went in to get a Bowie album, and it was nearly forty bucks. Forget which one, but she said that the whole store was pretty expensive. =\ Man, the music industry's going insane.

CDs at the moment in Australia are not too expensive, but it has waxed and waned over the years. My daughters' and their friends freely copy each others CDs, often printing the covers out from either dl-ed artwork or scanned stuff. Once they would have preferred getting the originals, if they were affordable. But they are now in the habit of copying -- and the record companies have only themselves to blame.

But on top of this, HMV are WELL-KNOWN in this country at least to be rip-off merchants. I don't know why anyone would buy music from HMV when they can get the material cheaper "next-door" (apart from sales).

When I was still buying Beatles CD's (I own them all so I don't have to buy anymore until they release a new CD that is.) anyways I once asked a clerk at HMV why Beatles CD's where so expensive compared to A & B sound another Canadian retailer.  She said that that's what EMI wanted them to sell the CD's at which is complete BS.  Also their DVD's are the most expensive some being $50.00 for one DVD however for some reason they seem to have DVD tittles that no one else has in stock so go figure.

Yeah, CD's are really expensive here in Canada. Single albums (that aren't new releases) are like $26.00 and double albums are up to $60.00 (that's tax includeed. Man, we have brutal taxes here in Nova Scotia.

Actually the "Health" care is free so to speak and we all know you just get what you pay for? Cancer patients can wait up to a year prior to seeing a specialist! The MRI machines are few and far between. I was watching Coronation street and I guess they have a 2 tear system in the Uk you can opt for private care which allows you to see a specialist almost immediatley or go public and wait months! Sounds like what "Canada" will have eventually!
