Band Of Gypsys was a release for Capitol Records to fullfill a past contract commitment to avoid a lawsuit. He didn't want to give them any of the new studio works he was doing at the time, so he gave them a live show instead.

First Rays was an album Jimi was working on at the time of his death. After he died the cuts from these sessions ended up being spread out on some posthumous outings like Cry Of Love and War Heroes. This CD is the closest thing to the finished album Eddie Kramer was able to come up with.

I don't know about that. I just know that Jimi produced Ladyland himself as said in the liner notes.
