If the question is: which is the best song that closes an album? the choice is easy. A Day In The Life is clearly the best song the Beatles ever recorded (at least imho).

However... if one asks which is the best song (as in "most fitting") to close an album the question is a bit more complex, and one can state that "Twist and Shout", "I'll Be Back", "Everybody's trying to be my baby" (yes, perfect commentary on beatlemania), "Tomorrow never knows" and "The End" are all valid songs. The choice then becomes virtually impossible, I mean "I'll be back" is just perfect as an album closer, but so is "The End". So I stick to ADITL.

'A Day In The Life'.  One of the greatest songs period.

"Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End" is my favorite by far.  Who else can end an album..."era" of Beatles with the line, "And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make."  That will be my epitaph on my tombstone when I die..........

I voted the same and for the same reasons as you.  A Day in The Life is a great song-  surely one of the greatest ever.  However, I don't think it is a top 5-10 Beatles song and that it is slightly overrated.

Tomorrow Never Knows

The ultimate album closer. What can possibly follow that track? A Day In The Life is my close second.

Her Majesty!!!

(rolling3)

It makes me laugh sooo much, that mental image of Paul getting himself a belly full of wine to get enough courage to ask the Queen to marry him (maybe that's not what he's asking), and it's a bit like their irreverent humour about going to the Palace to get their MBE's. And the Queen doesn't have a lot to say (apart from the Chrimbo Speech, but that's hardly a gasser, as they say).

Seriously though, I did have to ponder deeply about this one, because they have such a good track record (excuse the intended pun) of putting a cracking good tune on the end of a disc (apart from Run for your life).

:)Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum. I think the BEST Beatles album closer is Goodnight on the White Album. It just is a PERFECT closer for the album. My mom has always liked Paul and constantly made fun of Ringo, but I think he's awesome.  :)

I voted for A Day in the Life - could easily be The End though.

I voted for the long "The End" medley on Abbey Road.  What a stunning and satisfying way to close an album, not to mention a beautiful and appropriate swan song for the Beatles.

(Sometimes I'm a bit irked that "Her Majesty" was tacked on because it spoils the mood of the ending, but it'll be there whether I like it or not, so I'll just have to live with it.  :-/ :P )
