I knew that, Penny Lane.  I was just doing my best deadpan Spock impersonation in my posts.  I'm happy to see another Star Trek TOS fan here.

Ah, I see, Mr. Spock HG.  Fascinating.  I do apologize if you found my enthusiasm over Captain Kirk's bare chest to be most illogical.  However, I am certain that it is a human trait to seek others similar to themselves, so I must say it is quite interesting to meet another TOS fan.

Ah, no, he didn't.  Poor thing.  I love all your screenshots, though!

Hey, you can love both TOS and the Beatles. I'm proof of that, LOL. It's a great show (well, except for some episodes).

Spock is popular with the ladies.  ;)

Thanks, guys. :) In terms of getting to "see people," it sure helps to live in Southern California. ;)

Anyway, I have to pick up my tickets right before the event happens, so I hope it works out!

So, Penny Lane, you got a Dr. McCoy medical tricorder and scanner.  You're a true TOS fan alright.  Do the replicas make any noises?

Hi, HG! Yeah...I'm a total TOS Trekkie, there's no denying that. ;) My husband (also a fan) and I are discussing traveling to a major ST convention later this summer too.

As for the tricorder and scanner...to answer your question about them making noises, I'd have to say yes and no. The scanner makes noises when you press a button, but like I mentioned earlier, you have to rotate its spinner manually.

My tricorder, however, is pretty temperamental and will only play noises sometimes. I made sure that it was on the "Play" mode instead of the "Try Me" mode, but it constantly chokes up anyway. I can't tell if the wiring is faulty or if the batteries are dying, and sadly, I can't change the batteries because the screw head on the battery door is broken. *big sigh*

For a plastic toy, it's just decent, but at least it looks good as a decorative item or a costume accessory.

Penny Lane, one of the reasons I like Star Trek so much is because several gadgets dreamt up by the creators eventually came to be....

Tremendous vision on the part of the TOS creators, huh?

Oh, absolutely. It's amazing to see their inventions becoming "real."

This also includes communicators (which are like today's cell phones) and their PADDs (which are similar to iPads). I guess it's easy for me to say this now since I'm living in 2010, but considering that TOS was made during the 60's, their creators had a great deal of foresight!

I just wish hypos were in common use because I'm terrified of needles!
