Title: Beatles References in modern shows
Post by: somedude210 on August 18, 2006, 06:52:05 PM
I'm bored so when i was vacuuming the church today, i thought of a new thread for here b/c i havent done a beatles thread in awhile.

so try to think of as many shows that have made beatles references (either as a band or solo)

Family Guy: one episode peter recalled working as george's security ("quiet down! ...you wacky beatle"). another episode, stewie says that hes going to do something as bad as he did to john ("John, this is Yoko. Yoko, this is John")

Simpsons: an episode where bart breaks into Flander's secret room devoted to the Beatles, including ed sullivan suits and beatles drinks (John Lemon...damn what were the others)

can you guys think of any modern shows making beatles references (stick to 1990 and above)

"Friends" where on a party one of two scientists refers to Pheobe: "Oh, hello Yoko"

I obviously know some more references, but I just can't think of any now.

;D

Not a TV show, but was watching 'Goodfellas' on TV the other night, and 'What Is Life' by George was part of the coke-chopping bit.

Matt Groening and his cronies on The Simpsons team must have a bad case of Beatlemania!! There are hundreds of subtle and not-so-subtle references on the hit show... here are but a few!!

1. All three remaining Beatles have guest-starred on The Simpsons.

2. In the episode where Homer eats hot chilli and starts hallucinating, he comes across this strange creature in a desert which says, "Goo goo g'joob!" which really freaks him out.

3. In the episode where Homer goes hippie, the theme song at the end is very psychedelic.. Homer sings "Uptown Girl" over it.. and at the very end he says, "I buried Flanders!" .The start of the credit sounds extremely similar to the beginning of the song"Love You To". The rhythm track of the song is exactly the same as Tomorrow Never Knows.

4. The 'Be Sharps' episode, about Homer's barbershop quartet, is packed with Beatles references.. these are the ones I can remember!
    a) George Harrison guest-stars.
    b) When the 'Be Sharps' record their first single, 'Baby On Board' their producer walks into the studio and says, "Gentlemen, you have just recorded your first hit record", just like George Martin did when the Beatles recorded "Please Please Me".
    c) When Barney replaces Chief Wiggum in the group, their fans shout "Wiggum forever, Barney never!" just like they did when Ringo replaced Pete Best.
    d) Homer is convinced to hide the fact he's married to Marge like John did to Cynthia.
    e) The Be Sharps first album is called 'Meet the Be Sharps' with black and white photo of them in black skivvies, like the cover of "Meet the Beatles". Homer appears with his back facing the camera on the back cover like Paul on Sgt Pepper.
    f) The Be Sharps are welcomed at JFK Airport with thousands of screaming fans.
    g) Barney goes out with a 'japanese experimental artist', ie a Yoko look-alike.
    h) Bart says, "Did you stuff up like the Beatles and say you were bigger than Jesus?" Homer replies, "Oh all the time. In fact that was the name of our second album." The cover is just like Abbey Road, except they're walking on water.
    i) Barney and the Yoko lookalike record an 'experimental piece'... it goes, "Number Eight... (Barney burps)... Number Eight... .."
    j) When the cracks are starting to show in the Be Sharps, they record a song is called "C. Everett Koop" and they sing "koop koop a doop" (like goo goo g'joob!)
    k) They give a rooftop concert (at Moe's) when they reunite, wearing the exact same things that the Beatles did. The police give them a hard time.
    l) Homer says, "I'd like to thank you on behalf of the group and I hope we passed the audition." just like John did at the end of Get Back.
    m) There's also their press conference at Idlewild Airport, where one of the reporters asks Skinner if he's the "funny one."

5. The family is visiting a teacher 'Edutainment' show. Principal Skinner says, "Don't go too far if you want to see cafeteria workers in Beatle wigs playing tennis-racquet guitar!"

6. In the 'Dental plan.. Lisa needs braces!' episode, Lisa hallucinates when she goes under anaestetic. It's very Yellow Submarine-ish... at the end, the four cartoon Beatles sail past in their sub, and say, "Look.... it's Lisa in the sky! No diamonds though.."

7. In the episode where Bart becomes Mr Burns's heir, Marge and Homer visit 'Conformo', a brainwashing specialist. He lists his clients... "Peter Fonda, well, that was a heartbreaker. But I did get Paul McCartney out of Wings!" Homer: "You idiot! He was the most talented one!!"

8. The Simpson family visit a wax museum on a boiling hot day. The tour guide says, "And here's The Beatles how they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show." and gestures towards guitars lying in a pool of melted wax.

9. Bart has to do community service at the retirement home, because he wrecked Springfield's chances of hosting the Olympics. He releases the old people outside.. Can't Buy Me Love plays and they frolic just like in the field scene in A Hard Day's Night! Even the Beatle jump! (The old guy with the beard does Ringo's little jump then topples over.) While the credits are playing, a record called A Bart Day's Night is shown, with Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa taking the places of the Beatles.

10. When Paul and Linda guest-star...
    a) Lisa tells Apu that she ran away, and Paul says, "What? She's Leaving Home?" Later, Linda says "Whenever we're in Springfield, we like to be in Apu's garden in the shade" Paul says he met Apu during the Maharishi days. Apu: "Back then I was known as the 5th Beatle." Later, he sings "Sgt Pepper" really badly.
    b) Towards the end, a pig accidentally gets shot out of a cannon type thing. Just like in "I Am The Walrus"... "See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly."

11. There's an episode called Monty Can't Buy Me Love.

12. In the episode where Ringo guest-stars... Mr.Burns: "Ringo?" Smithers: "He was the drummer for a combo called The Beatles." Mr.Burns: "Oh yes, I seem to remember them wailing on the old Sullivan show. What was Ed thinking?"

12. One of the graves in The Simpsons Halloween special says 'Paul McCartney' (As part of the "Paul is Dead" rumor!).

13. When a scientist analyzes an eyelash for DNA (in Who Shot Mr.Burns Part II) a bunch of last names go by really quickly... including Starr, Harrison, and McCartney.

14. Homer and Marge have dinner at Apu's house. Apu looks through his records..."Shankar.....Shankar.....Shankar.....ah! Here we go!" and he pulls out a record named the Concert Against Bangladesh.

15. In "Lemon of Troy", some kids from Shelbyville steal a lemon tree from Springfield. At one point, Bart tries to get the tree back but pretending he is from Shelbyville. To disguise himself, he dresses in a Beatle wig. One of the Shelbyvillian kids then says something like "And his hair looks like a Beatle's!".

16. In one of the couch scenes, The Simpsons plus many of the townspeople recreate the Sgt Pepper cover. Homer (wearing blue like Paul!) turns around....

17. Krusty has a picture in his office of him with the Beatles.

18. Bart and Lisa try to get Sideshow Bob to confess to a crime. Bart: "You were just Barlow's lackey." Lisa: "You were Ronnie to Nancy!" "Sonny to Cher!" "Ringo to the rest of the Beatles!"

19. There's a homeless shelter in Springfield called, "Helter Shelter".

20. In the episode where Homer gets in trouble for sexual harrassment, the TV news show rapidly shows a list of apologies at the end. If you slow down the tape, it says "The Beatles did not reunite to enter kickboxing competions".

21. Homer, Moe and Barney are at Moe's drinking and smoking cigars. Moe: "Here's to Homer!" Barney: "And to Sgt Pepper who's growing out the middle of his back!" Moe: "Barney, you gotta take the plastic off those before you smoke them!"

22. In the episode where a toy company sponsors the school to do market research, Lisa discovers a secret spying room in a broom closet, and she calls the police. A mop falls on her head when Chief Wiggum enters. Lisa: "You have to believe me!" Wiggum: "Yeah right, moptop, and I'm Ed Sullivan."

23. The Simpsons go to a 50's diner that has newspapers from the 50's on the walls. One of the larger headlines is "BEATLES FORMED!"

24. A young woman named Becky temporarily moves in with the family. Marge become paranoid and starts to suspect that Becky is trying to kill her and steal her family away so she attacks her. She goes on trial for this. One of the judges tries to establish whether she is unstable by asking, "Did you ever have an unhealthy fixation on Ringo Starr?"

25. In one episode Homer becomes a sort of artist and claims he always wanted ot be one. As a 'schoolgirl' he'd paint pictures of Ringo Starr. Marge then complains that that was her childhood and Homer exclaims, "Marge, I think I'd know my own life from yours!"

26. There is a Simpsons soundtrack called The Yellow Album. The cover looks like Sgt Pepper only with the Springfield residents.

27. Paul McCartney is in the line for the ship headed to "Second Earth" after the earth fails, because Homer screws up Y2K. George and Ringo are on the Suicide rocket. Also, Rev. Lovejoy says, "The earth wouldn't blow up if God liked your miniskirts and Beatle boots!" To which flanders remarks, "Dang-diddly-ang that John Lennon!"

28. A producer says "We've used pop music to recruit for the navy!" and shows a picture of the Beatles in their Sgt. Pepper outfits, pointing weapons at people.

29. Homer says, "...they're just nonsense words, like 'rama lama ding dong', or give peace a chance."

30. In the Simpsons PC game there is a furniture designer named "Yoko Onasis", and a toy box called the "Magical Mystery Box".

31. Springfield wins the "world's fattest town record", and Dr. Hibbert says, "Finally, a record we can call our own!" to which Captain McCallistair replies,"Now we can stop all the lies," and points to a billboard that reads 'Springfield: Birthplace of The Beatles!'

32. On the episode called "Behind the Laughter", a bunch of screaming girls watch a tape of Bart dancing to a badly-sung version of Twist and Shout.

33. On a Halloween episode, The Devil appears in Flanders-form, and confesses that his deep-down eternally-long secret was to be one of the Beatles.

34. One episode (not sure which one?) is dedicated to Linda McCartney.

35. And the "Hunka Hunka Burns In Love" episode is dedicated to George Harrison.

36. In the beginning of the episode that Lisa is taught by Little Vicky to become a tap dancer, Homer is at the eye doctors. He looks at glasses and the lady says, "This one is very popular with celebrities, such as Jim Morrison and Yoko Ono." Homer says, "Ewww, she totally ruined the Plastic Ono Band!"

37. Principal Skinner had a group of rappers at the school, rapping about the importance of safety, and when they were done the principal said, "Wow, watch out, Beatles!". It was really funny!

38. In one of the newer episodes Little Richard is hosting the Teacher of the Year awards. Right when he is about to announce the winner, he says, "I'm a teacher too. I taught Paul McCartney to go OOOOOOOOH!"

In the beginning of the show The Wonder Years (which is a kick-ass show), Joe Cocker's version of A Little Help From My Friends Plays.

Can't think of any more shows but as for movies....

In the beginning of the movie Austin Powers, the opening part is like a Hard Day's Night.
In the Beakfast Club the one kid says he wanted to be John Lennon.
In Dirty Dancing in the beginning Baby mentions the year and says its before The Beatles.
In Ferris Buller's Day Off he is in that parade singing Twist and Shout.
Forrest Gump met John Lennon.
In My Girl, Maukley wants to drive to Liverpool because he is a big Ringo fan.

Those are all that I can think of! I know there must be alot more!!!

There are so many Beatles references thrown about I can't even keep up with them! I can't really go a day without seeing or hearing something related to the Beatles. Unless I go live in a cave or something.

Not so much a modern show anymore, but still cool: School House Rock. This is from the song A Noun is a Person, Place or thing. Love it.

Oh, I put a dime in the drugstore record machine.
Oldies goldies started playing if you know what I mean.
I heard Chubby Checker, he was doin' the twist
And the Beatles and the Monkees, it goes like this!
I put a dime in the drugstore record machine.

Well every person you can know (The Beatles and the Monkees, Chubby Checker)
And every place that you can go (Like a neighborhood or a store)
And anything that you can show (Like a dime or a record machine)
You know they're nouns.

Well, all 4 Beatles were in 1 episode of Family Guy it's really funny but really mean at the same time

Brian the dog says:"Well, this is the biggest waste of time since Ringo's sonwriting"
then it flashes to the Beatles in the Studio

Its definetely on Youtube if you wanna see it and have a laugh but feel bad for good ol Ringo at the same time

Also, in one episode of Family Guy when they go to the South Stewie plays a Banjo solo and yells out "Ive got Blisters on my fingers!"

And on Forrest Gump they place John with him and makes Peace remarks to him about the Vietnam
Ill try to think of some more

Here's a few, Sorry if they've been mentioned before.

Goldfinger: James Bond says ' My dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done, such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That's just as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs!'

The Blues Brothers: 'Who do you think we are the fu**ing Beatles or something?'.

Poltergeist: When the father is trying to make the mother feel better, he sings 'If I fell' to her.

In Apollo 13, when we see the daughter of one of the astronauts she's carrying 'Let It Be'.

Rain man: Raymond and Charlie sing 'I saw her standing there' while in the bathroom.

'Because' is playing at the end of American Beauty.

And my favourite Beatles quote from 'Sliding Doors:
The character of James says this, 'Everyone is born knowing every single Beatles lyric. It's ingested into the fetus along with all that amniotic stuff. In fact, they should be called "the Fetals'.

That 'Sliding Doors' quote is too funny!

You reminded me in Apollo 13, just before the family goes to mission control and learns the mission is not being broadcast, the teenage girl is having a fit and doesn't want to go. "I hate Paul!" And her little sister teases, "Is she still going on about the Beatles breaking up?" I loved this quote because for many people, this will remind them clearly of the time period where the Apollo 13 incident took place.

I was reading Pet Sematary (Stephen King) and in the pet cematary was a grave marker that said "RINGO OUR HAMSTER 1964-1965"

King has made several Beatle reference in a few of his books. One off the top of my head is Needful Things. I am sure there are others.

Also, I was watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" (don't ask me why I was bored) and his mom and dad were talking about how much they love jazz music and his mom made a comment "Those Beatles were just terrible!"

Yeah, the B-Sharps! I love that episode! Perfect. They even kicked out Chief Wiggum a la Pete Best! So great. Mo wasn't in the band though, it was: Homer, Apu, Chief Wiggum and Principal Skinner. Chief Wiggum was then replaced by Barney. "Wiggum forever, Barney never!" ;D

There was one in That 70s Show were Jackie and Hyde got together and Eric was talking to Jackie saying that they couldn't stay together and said "because you're breaking up the band, Yoko!" haha!

Also there was something in family guy about ringo's songwriting:

http://www.beatleslane.com/video/beatles-on-family-guy.htm

edit - also I remember one in 30 Rock where Jack d.'s girlfriend is talking to Liz saying "You know how John Lennon was better than the rest of the Beatles but didn't realize it until he met Yoko? Well I'M Jack's Yoko!"
Liz: "You WANT to be Yoko?!?"

Okay, through an amazing spiral through YouTube I ended up watching some Weird Al Yankovic clips. He spoofs the Beatles several times in his music: "Pacman" for "Taxman", "Chicken Pot Pie" for "Live and Let Die", "Hey Jude" set to polka music, etc.

However, I just saw the following shout out in his 2000 "Millennium" VH-1 show (hiding in his underground bunker because the world was ending), and the Beatles are not forgotten when he's packing his Y2K survival kit: http://www.dailymotion.com/related/x2gbrk/video/x2gc5j_vhal-part-3_fun

"What, you sold your thumbs to get me my favorite mustache trimmer"?

OK, Hari, listen closely. Youtube is just the Dark Side, cleverly packaged and marketed. Repeat after me ... I will put down the computer mouse for at least some time every hour. I will put down ...

Look, Alexis, I hear what you're saying. It's kind of you to worry. But I can quit any time I want to. Really. There's just one more series I need to watch. It's a ten-parter. And there's a four-parter after that. Two more series. And that's it! And then I can just walk away... after I play a few of my favorite clips.

Why do I feel like Luke confronting Darth Vader in that cave when he was training with Yoda? "Remember your failure in the cave...."

I've just for the first time seen the original (UK) version of The Office. And Ricky Gervais's character has eerie similarities to Paul McCartney's characteristics, especially during the filming of Let it Be.

Why does it seem when they show british people on american television, they always have some kind of attitude. Simon on American Idol, Chef Ramsey (I think he's Scottish though), that lady on Weakest Link, even the guy on So You Think You can Dance?

Not that I care, I love them all I think their great, especially Chef Ramsey (I have a crush on him ;D ) And Simon on American Idol is awesome. He always says exactly what I am thinking and I love that he has the guts to say it.

Oh I just thought of another one from an episode of Dr Who! Thanks to two posts up ^^. I'm not sure what the episode was called but the Doctor and the girl were trapped on a spaceship on a crash course to the sun and the girl and some other dude had to unlock doors by answering questions. The one was "Who had the most pre-download hits, Elvis or The Beatles". They ask the doctor and he doesn't know so he's trying to make himself think and then looks out a window and shouts "Here comes the sun!". I thought it was funny (my high school math teacher, man I love that dude, kept that episode on until that part (he wanted to show us the part with the happy prime numbers)).

Not really modern, but there's this Only Fools and Horses epi where Rodney is in a band, being the drummer, and Del Boy calls him Ringo ;D

And in a Midsomer Murders episode called The Axeman Cometh, there was also a drummer who got called Ringo.

And also, there was something in the paper last week... a photo of MPs walking to some meeting with the Prime Minister, and in the photo they were crossing the road Abbey-Road-style. Later there was a little article about the photographer, saying he did it on purpose this way coz he's a Beatlemaniac ;D

Not very original, but if anyone can make it funny... ANYWAY, during the preview they used I'm Looking Through You and it was the ACTUAL Beatles version!! How is that possible??!! I watched Shrek 3 with my little cousins one day. And at the part where the "magical frog" i guess, dies. All the sudden, so unexpectedly, here comes Paul's beautiful voice singing "Live and Let Die". My mouth literally dropped for a second. hah
I thought that was so cool of them, to put that song on a kid's movie. Well of course, the kids probably don't know who Paul is, much less The Beatles, but the whole idea of it was pretty genius.

I remember spongebob episode called "Krabby Road", The episode's title is a play on Abbey Road by The Beatles (the back cover is also parodied in the title card)

also many animation personages were The Beatles parodies, like, Alvin and the Chipmunks sang most famous "beatlesmania (1963-1964)" era songs, in their lp album (released somewhere in the middle of 1960s)

also warner brothers "looney tunes" (does anybody remember Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck?) were also did the same as the Chipmunks, they also sang Beatlemania songs and released lp.

also I remember episode from the movie "the rock" where nicolas cage character "Stanley Goodspeed" waiting something from post, and when he get that post, one asked: "what's that"? Stanley show The Beatles album: meet the beatles.

from the movie called "a bronx tale" there was scene that italian mafioso fighting versus bikers who destroyed their bar, and when they started to fight them, you can clearly hear The Beatles - come together.

movie "I Am Sam" was most based by The Beatles songs, and when sean penn babe was born, he named her, Lucy Diamond Dawson (lucy in the sky with diamonds)

I know this is not reference to the The Beatles, but reference to the John Lennon, in martin scorsese "The Departed":
Jack Nicholson asked: Do you know John Lennon?
DiCaprio: Yeah, sure, he was the president before Lincoln
Nicholson: Lennon said, "I'm an artist. You give me a f***ing tuba, I'll get you something out of it."
DiCaprio: Well I tell you Mr. Costello, I'd like to squeeze some f***ing money out of it.
Nicholson: Smart mouth. Too bad. If you'll indulge me...
Nicholson: The point I'm making with John Lennon is - a man could look at anything, and make something out of it. For instance, I look at you and I think "what could I use you for?"

Adam: "I have. I like 'Helter Skelter.'"
Spike: "What a surprise. The point is, they were once a real
powerful group. It's not a stretch to say they ruled the
world. When they broke up, everyone blamed Yoko,
but the fact is, the group split itself up, she just

Dark Skies
An Alien plan to exploit the Beatles' appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show is uncovered in an episode called "Dark Day's Night."

Dawson's Creek (January 12, 2000)
In an episode called " Barefoot at Capefest" Joey gives Dawson an "Imagine" poster (the one from the 1988 movie). And this dialogue takes place:
Joey: Do you remember? Do you remember that summer we
came across a pile of Mitch and Gale's old Beatles
albums, and listened to them on the porch everyday for
                   hours?
Dawson: Grams kept on yelling for us to turn down that
                        hippy music.
Joey: Yeah... and you wanted to be John Lennon. You
wanted to write songs and change the world with your
                  music.
        Dawson: I did?
Joey: You did. You weren't just about Spielberg. You
weren't limited. You... you were about so many things.
I just wanted to remind you of that.(hands the poster
to Dawson) I also wanted to remind you that, even
though sometimes my emotions, particularly jealousy,
uhh, sometimes get the best of me, I still hear you.
No matter how much we yell, or, no matter how quiet
you are. I hear you, Dawson.
Dawson: I hear you too, Joey.
Joey: Listen, I know what's going inside of you is
huge. It's okay if you don't share it with me. Just
promise me you'll keep trying to share it with
               someone?
Dawson: (gesturing the poster) Do you want to give me
                     a hand?
(They both climb on the bed and hang it up.)
Dawson: Hmm. So what do you think? You think John here
will inspire me to walk my own path?
Joey: You've always walked your own path, Dawson. You
just needed to widen it a little. And be on the look
               out for your Yoko.
(followed by "Imagine" playing as the credits roll)

  Degrassi Jr. High
In one episode Wheels has to get glasses, and Joey tells him that he will have to take his glasses off when he plays with the band, because "who ever heard of a rock star wearing glasses?" And Wheels replies to him "What about John Lennon?"
Joey Jerimiah has a Sgt. Pepper's poster hanging in his bedroom

Different Strokes

In an episode about Arnold's height, he goes to see Dr. Robert.

Doug
There is an episode called "Doug Rocks" where Doug and Skeeter win tickets to see their favorite rock group, the Beets, but miss it due to Skeeter being grounded. (Ashley luvsGeorge tells me that The Beets are a reoccurring British rock band that are very similar to the
Beatles. That one of the members look very much like John and another like Ringo.)

Dr. Who (1973 BBC)
  The Three Doctors
   Episode 1
   2nd Doctor:You see Jo, I may call you Joe Mayn't I?
   Jo: (shakes head yes)
2nd Doctor:See he is one of me.

I was watching a rerun of The Simpsons tonight. It was an early episode -- from 1991 -- and Homer bought Lisa a pony and then had to get a second job to pay for it -- working the nightshift at Apu's convenience store. He was sleep-deprived, and driving home, he started dozing and hallucinating. The song he was hearing in his dream sounded vaguely familiar. It was -- a very slow version of "Golden Slumbers."

The one I watched last night was where Homer was trying to pick out sunglasses. The guy was saying who all famous wore them and he mentions Yoko. Homer goes, "Eww, Yoko! She ruined the Plastic Ono Band!"

They've kind of stopped doing so many Beatles references on the newer episodes. That sucks.

I was watching the food channel, and there was this show about diners and such on, and there was this diner in Norfolk, Virginia that serves ice cream called "The Ringo." To be completely honest, that ice cream looked pretty good. Vanilla with chocolate sauce, ice cream cone bits, whipped cream, and a cherry. And the cone is home made, too.

*unsure if mentioned*
On That '70s Show, Hyde was dating this girl and she was sitting in Eric's "circle" seat. Eric got all mad and told her to leave. She did, and as she left, Eric screamed, "Siyonara, Yoko! *sits in seat*... We're kinda like The Beatles."

And, another time on That '70s Show, during the Christmas special (it was on today... in the middle of summer), they played a George Harrison song in the background during one of the "circle" meetings... I think. I wasn't paying much attention to that part.

Has anyone ever heard of a cartoon series called Doug? It's a 90's cartoon I used to watch when I was younger
(looks like this: )

Doug's favourite band was called The Beets, which is a reference to the Beatles :). They even had an album called Let It Beet ;D Apparently they had a "somewhat Scouse accent", but back then my English wasn't good enough to pick that up (lol)

I was watching this five-part special called "101 Most Unforgettable SNL (Saturday Night Live) Moments" and there was a couple clips that were Beatles related.

One of them was with Ringo and Barbara drinking tea with... someone and the someone person was hitting on Barbara. Ringo just sat there watching and being all quiet.

The other clip was with Chris Farley and Paul. Chris was "interviewing" Paul, and Charis thought he was doing bad, so he hit himself. You could tell that Paul was on the verge of cracking up.

Ringo and Barbara were 'guests' on Fernando's Hideaway in 1984. "Fernando Lamas" was Billy Crystal, and of course his famous catchprase was "You Look Mah-velous," which at the time was nearly as overplayed as "Where's the Beef?"

And Paul was a 'guest' on The Chris Farley Show (probably circa 1993). Farley would ask his guests the most simplistic, childlike questions: "Hey Paul, you 'member.... when you were in the Beatles?" Paul: "Yes." Chris: "That was awesome!..... You said 'In the end the love you take is equal to the love you make. I always wondered.... is that true?" Paul: "I've always found it to be so." (At this point Chris is bouncing on his chair, becoming ecstatic in the moment.)

This is actually a book reference and it is for Wings, I am probably straying off topic a bit but I thought I would share...

The book is called Paranoia, by Joseph Finder. A character in the book has the song "Band on the Run" in his head. His thoughts on this are:
"For some reason some sappy golden-oldie song was playing in my head- Band on the Run, by Paul McCartney in his unfortunate Wings period. A song I really detest, worse than anything by Celine Dion. The tune is annoying but catchy, like pinkeye, and the words make no sense". "A bell was ringing in the village square for the rabbits on the run!" Um okay?! The damn song is circling in my head " The county judge held a grudge" "the jailer man and Sailor Sam" This is like chinese water torture! What did those stupid lyric mean anyway? Did anyone know?

We were watching one of the older Midsomer Murders episodes the other day and I remembered it had a Beatles reference (grin). It's the Chief Inspectror's wife's birthday and he gives her a card that says "will you still need me, will you still feed me, when you're 84" (lol) and she doesn't happen to be the best cook around as far as "feeding" is concerned... ;)

Oh yeah, and in The Thin Blue Line series, in one episode the police officers are rehearsing for a court appearance and someone suggests to Rowan Atkinson's character that they need a judge, so he says "well we haven't got a judge! A glance about the room reveals no slumbering octogenerian who claims to never have heard of The Beatles!" ;D

Did anyone catch the Lennon in heaven on The Simpsons tonight? Didn't think they'd ever have the nerve to do something like that. It was okay though. At one point he was riding a Yellow Submarine shouting, "All we are saying is, let's eat some brains!" Or something like that. Is he a ghost or a zombie. Come on. Anyway, the only reason I'm not totally annoyed by it is the fact that he was joining other dead celebrities in their plan to take revenge on the humans who have exploited their dead image. From the BBC election coverage:

Quote
Grant Park (in Chicago) is an extraordinary place this evening - a blazing bowl of light edged with towering skyscrapers. The lights in the window of one building facing the stage about a mile across the darkness of the park are spelling out the letters "USA". News of significant Obama advances, like the network projections he will take Pennsylvania are greeted with an earthquake of noise that would have frightened the Beatles offstage.

There`s a TV program here called Comedy Club. It`s like the US stand-up-comedy (?) or the British show with Russell Brand. It is very funny and very popular, the comedians are young guys, witty and breaking the accepted norms. So, they were showing two olygarhs during the current financial crisis speaking to each other, pointing out how rich they were before the crisis that they could afford to do this and that. Among other things one said: I used to be so rich that the very Paul McCartney sang to me! And the other, always having to say something to outdo his counterpart, said: And I used to be so rich that... that...John Lennon himself sang to me! Then they paid for their Big Mac and went off.

There`s a show here called The Club of the Funniest and the Wittiest - KVN - where teams of students from universities from different towns compete for the title of the Best. So one team made fun of pop-music, showing different "stars" in a very funny-silly way. They ended their episode, wishing such stars would vanish and showing a big poster which wrote: Give Peace A Chance, John Lennon, but, actually read: Give World A Chance. The fact is that the words Peace and World are pronounced in the same way in Russian: (MI:R) -

In this show, The Soup, the host guy, Joel McHale, was talking about how he thought that Al Roker, the weather guy from The Today Show here in the US, was high. Then, Joel said 'Lucy in the sky with donuts!" because Al Roker is kind of... on the larger side.

Apparently they show the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in Benjamin Button. Which I still haven't seen! Beatles' music seems to be showing up more and more in movies these days. Does this mean they're loosening the reigns? Uh oh.

Yeah, Kalie! KVN is still going but it has become more of a show. Then the best, who are non-professionals, enter Comedy Club and become popular comedians. The good side of it is that those are young guys whose humour is fresh and daring.

Anyone have the computer game 'the Sims 2'?
In the game, there is a peice of furniture designed by 'Yoko Onasis'. the description is as follows:

Some chairs are just chairs. Some chairs aspire to be more. According to Yoko Onassis, her Plasticity NodePod is 'a dream, an air, a fundament, an internilazation made manifest, a frozen epheremal gesture, squared.' This artistic statement is available for purchase.

Not technically Beatles, but reference thread-worthy.

once when they were talking on walkie-talkies, and Patrick was trying to say "Roger", but kept getting it wrong. he ran through a bunch of R names, and ended up with Ringo. =)

I remember hearing a Beatles reference in 30 Rock.

It was about Yoko Ono.
Liz Lemon is talking to Phoebe (jack's girlfriend for like one episode.)

Phoebe: You know how John Lennon was better than the rest of The Beatles until he met Yoko Ono? Well I’m Jack’s Yoko.
Liz: You want to be Yoko?
Phoebe: This is none of your business anyway. I’m marrying Jack. He’s everything I’ve ever wanted.
Liz: Oh, I bet he is.
Phoebe: You don’t know anything about me so back off.
Liz: What happened to your accent?
Phoebe: (pausing) I don’t know what you’re on about, you daft wanker.

;D made me laugh when i heard it!

Haha!^^

I heard this in either Law and Order or CSI. I can't remember.

But this woman was in a book store buying a poetry book:

Woman "I love poetry, it gives me this amazing feeling inside"
Clerk "Like the feeling my mother would get when she heard Paul McCartney perform Yesterday when she saw The Beatles in the 60's"
Woman "Yes, like that"

I WANNA BE THAT CLERKS MOTHER! End of story! hehe
And I don't think thats the word for word description, but its close enough.

i saw this macy's commercial where they're doing this fund called "come together"
the song was playing in the background, and at the end, some girl sings the words, 'come together'
--
then in 'everybody hates chris'
when the dad is teaching his daughter techniques in checkers..
"first, you gotta give an easy target, then you ambush right after"
(narrorator):sounds just like paul mccartney's life! (heather mills reference, too)

Well, this is a movie, but in X-Men Origins: Wolverine his girlfriend was telling him the story of a god named kuwaykuwatsu (if thats the right spelling) and when she was done wolverine said "Koo Koo Ca Chu Got screwed" so that could have been an I am The Walrus refrence. Then on The Mentalist this guy said to Jane "I don't know you from the back of my hand!" and then Jane said "Who's my favorite Beatle?" lol

Fuzzy was the quiet one haha? ugh I can't think of the rest of the episode I'll post the youtube link

There's a reason why we always use that quote 'Yellow Submarine crossed between The Great Rock N Roll Swindle' because Yellow Submarine was probably the last great English animated film. And if you watch it today, it's still great.

In Superbad, a character named Seth mentions something and describes it as "the first time I listened to The Beatles". It was near the beginning of the movie.

Also, in another scene, a couple of drunk police officers hit that same character on the street, I dunno that sort of reminded me of John's mother's demise.

Walk Hard: The Beatles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKGBTCowyEw#lq-lq2-hq)
At a friend's house the other day we watched the film "Walk Hard". Okay, I wouldn't recommend the movie, it was a little stupid and I didn't get many laughs out of it.
However, this bit gave me a giggle.

Every single cover version of Hello Goodbye I have ever heard has been terrible. It pops up all the time in commercials. It's so annoying! The Beatles version is the only one I can tolerate and that's mostly because of the awesome "Hey la, hey hello-ah's" at the end. ;D

I didn't think it sounded that bad. Its a very basic song anyway(and not one of my favorite Beatle tracks for some reason). The female harony gives it a different sound.

I saw an ad recently (forget what it was for) with All Together Now playing in it. Not a great cover, but I don't mind it. :)

On Series 6 on Curb Your Enthusiasm Larry David has tickets for a McCartney concert and is at a party before the concert and is reading this book about Freaks and laughs and says 'what a freak' and Heather Mills walks in (not the Heather a actress but you just see her back) and she goes 'who you calling a freak?' and Larry gets chucked out the concert.

It frees the seniors .. Can not Buy Me Love plays and they play like in the scene area A Hard Day's Night! Even jumping Beatle! (The old man with a beard not Ringo Inflatable little to reverse.) While the credits are playing a record called Night One day, Bart is shown with Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa take places in the Beatles.

I watch a show called Outsourced (I probably will stop watching because it's the 1st season and it's kind of a boring show) and it made me really happy when they had a Beatles reference one episode.Well it's an episode about one of the characters wants to be in a talent show thing so the manager is with him and another girl from the office that sings good and the manager's girlfriend is there and the other guy says "Get out Yoko this is a closed session".

I also have heard many more references on shows and movies and also some books.People said Stephen King has some references in his books,I just recently was reading his book Dreamcatcher and there's an I Am The Walrus reference.I already wrote a comment on this like 10 minutes ago but I wanted to write more because I left out more of what I wanted to say.I really wish I could make a movie all having a bunch of Beatles references,I actually think about ideas for it lol :)

Despite the sugary, feel-good overkill of it, I think John would approve of the 'Imagine' version.

IWHYH started ok but became boring when the music came in. I like SLS though - it shows what a cool sort of funky melody it is.

Yeah I think John would agree with the sentiment of the song with the deaf choir.

Funny! Family Guy is one of those shows where I'm either totally offended or rolling on the floor laughing, sometimes all at once! I only watch it when my son is home; it's funnier with him here. Besides, he needs me to explain some of the older pop culture references. ;)

The other day was watching a Crime programme called Silent Witness and at the end they played A Day In Thwe Life

Yoko appears on a episode of South Park and in a Halloween Special in The Simpsons you see a grave reading Paul McCartney

I know this is a very late follow up to this post, but I wanted to give some more details about the 'Silent Witness' references to The Beatles.

Silent Witness – Season 12 Episode 4 – toward the end of the episode, the first one and a half verses of ‘A Day In The Life’ are played, then cutting to the line at the end of the song, “I’d love to turn you on”.

They played the original recording - I have no idea how they got permission to do this, or why they would have been given permission to do so.

Silent Witness – Season 12 Episode 3 (?) - pathologist trainee (really an aspiring journalist) says that she is from Blackburn, and Harry says, “4000 holes”.

There are also other references to The Fabs either earlier in Season 12, or in either Season 10 or 11.

Sounds like either one or some of the writers were Beatles' fans, or one o the producers or members of the cast. (Probably everyone).

Thanks for restarting it gdv. I didn’t even realise we had this topic. It is interesting they were able to use the actual recording. It’s very unusual to hear original Beatle music in a film or Tv series. I remember the publicity Mad Men got when it used a few seconds of Tomorrow Never Knows. It cost them quite a bit of money but I suppose for a top tv show the budget is pretty high per episode.

Other ones that popped up was Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand in JoJo Rabbit and I’m Looking Through You at the beginning of Ghost Town. It’s a real surprise when it happens.

I’ve been watching the British spy show Slow Horses. Which is quite good if people like that sort of thing. Gary Oldman is great in it.

In one episode they refer to some MI5 files being moved to storage as “Ringos”. I didn’t think that much of it but later on they talked about the lower classified files being moved to a storage facility as “Georges and Ringos”. The more highly classified ones being retained in the head office were”Johns and Pauls” ha2ha

Kirstin Scott Thomas is in it , she played Aunt Mimi in Nowhere boy (very well) if I'm not mistaken.

She really was. Only a handful of actors and roles stick in my mind as being absolutely spot-on several years after I've seen a film, and that's one of them.
