35 Genesis publications books sale mostly Beatles
« on: April 26, 2005, 10:53:30 AM »

Dear all

I am hoping this might be of interest to you or someone you know.
I have for sale an entire music collection of Genesis Publications Books (35 of them in total). Most of them are Beatles related. Many are out of print/fully subscibed and many are signed/autographed by some of the Beatles and/or their photographers. The collection must be sold as a whole, so can not sell individual books.

The collection can be viewed at www.gnuga.com
Please email me if you have any queries.

Kind regards
Irena Sprey

This smells to high heaven.

The terms and conditions, as stated on the web site, are amateurish and frightening.

I'll give just one indication that this lot are on the nose; there are others if you read with suspicion! Here it is: For buyers within Australia, the final price excludes GST. The Purchaser may incur GST in addition to the final price. Second-hand goods currently do not attract GST when purchased within Australia. The last sentence is simply not true. Goods, new or second-hand, purchased in Australia, attract GST.

But far worse and of great concern, is that the "company" does NOT give a street address. That's the signal to stay away at all costs.

Dear Ydoll Gwyn

For your infomation, Gnuga is a legitimate Australian business reistered with the Department of fair Trading, you can check their website if you don't believe me. Second hand goods DO NOT currently attract GST if purchased within Australia (though some secondhand dealers may charge it), I have had both accounting and legal advice on this. Obviously you've had different advice. The terms and condiitons are fairly standard for an Australian auction house, if you find them "amateurish and frightening" than perhaps you should avoid all auction houses. I have specifically written them in plain Engish, so that you don't need a lawyer to decifer them.
The company trades through the internet. I operate this company from my home. The goods I sell reside with their owners or in bank vaults until they are sold, so I don't have a premises like other auction houses.
Your slanderous remarks are really uncalled for. If you had questions or issues with the company why didn't you contact me first? Why did you feel compelled to go on a public forum with slanderous and insulting comments?

Because you advertised on a public forum! And, they are not slanderous comments. You don't give a street address. Anyone with sense knows that one does NOT do business with people who avoid giving their street business address.

About the GST: I have certainly had different advice. I will look into it, as someone at work today said they thought 2nd-hand stuff didn't attract GST.

Can you tell us which "internet auction site" you will be using? Why should people pay any attention with so many unknowns?

Lastly, trust in business is earned. That's why reputation and "goodwill" are priceless commodities. A newbie in a business like this has got to expect suspicion - at least from intelligent and wary buyers.

Do be quiet, Constable Plod.

The fact that my opinion is often mine alone has NOTHING to do with how correct it is, its logic, its justifications. I know you're a bully - and therefore you just love the herd.

Further on the Goods & Services Tax (GST)issue:

My wife phoned the Australian Tax Office today. It seems that if the selling of second hand goods is done by a registered business (either on their own behalf or another's), then GST is payable by the buyer, and the business has to collect it and remit it to the government. In other words, the fact that it's second hand goods matters not a whit.

However, a transaction between two private individuals does not (of course) attract GST. This is not the situation here.

I'd be intrested if you still want to insist that GST is not payable. I'd imagine it would amount to several thousand dollars in this instance, so it's an important issue.

Dear Ydoll Gwyn

I will ask my accountant to have another look at the GST issue on Monday. In the meantime I will remove the statement from the Terms and Conditions until the issue is clarified.
To answer your other questions:
I am a registered Trading Assistant on eBay (under isprey) and have a 100% rating. Other members of the team have experience in marketing and managing high value bids for commercialisation of new technology.
I have been approached a number of times (through eBay) to sell high value items. For items of this value I felt it inappropriate to just list on eBay, without informing those people likely to be interested. Therefore Gnuga Strategis Sales is being set up to handle higher value items and target likely interest groups.

As I mentioned before the business is being run from home as we do not handle or store any of the items for sale. This keeps the overheads to a minimum and savings are passed on to the seller. Full contact information (including business address) is provided to all those who register.

eBay will be the most likely auction site I will use for the auction of the books.

I'd be happy to answer any other queries regarding the books here. Maybe we can discuss the other issues regarding the business off-line (irena@gnuga.com).

Why are you suddenly using capital letters? Granted, you're using them badly - but you usually don't bother. Maybe you're copying and pasting without understanding? As I say, stultus est sicut stultus facit. (You have looked up what it means, haven't you?)
