Everywhere you look you find rumors about Paul and Jane's relationship and eventual split. I want to know what really made the split up? And as of today, what are the two's relationship to another? Have they seen each other and made up or do they still act as if they had split up yesterday? Thanks for any knowledge. . .
-
I don't know details or anything.. But it seems that ultimately they were too different..
Paul was a country boy and she was a city girl. That could be a factor anyways.
-
^ Yes they were different, in the way you mentioned dirtyoldsod. I also read that one day Jane found Paul in bed with another girl. Paul told Cyn (when John and her split) that he sort of blames himself for what he did.
Pity the two split. They look like the perfect couple. (heart1)
-
Didn't she walk in on Paul and Linda at Cavendish Avenue?
-
No, this was some intermediate chick before Linda, 834. I forget her name.
-
Francie Schwartz?

Francie Schwartz?
That rings a bell. Jane Asher has always refused to talk about her relationship with Paul. Good for her.

Ive always liked that about Jane ,BlueMeanie that she's not been a kiss and tell women :)

She said she'd also found him changed after he took LSD, because she didn't share the "experience" with him.
-
I think she wanted to put distance from her relationship with Paul so people know her for her own merits instead of being known as Paul's former girlfriend. Good for her!
-
Maybe paul was too much of a swinger before he met Linda & never took
a relationship seriously. :-/ I'm not sure if Paul & Jane would have been an
ideal couple, but she seemed like a nice enough person. :)
-
I wish he'd get back with her now. She's a class act. Of course, I'm being somewhat facetious, but if he's going to give it another whirl someday, I hope it's with more of a contemporary that has grace and style, and everything that Heathen is not.
-

Hey, i never thought of that! Wow! Is Jane single?
:)
-
I just checked, and apparantly she's married to Gerald Scarfe--the guy who did the animation for Pink Floyd's "The Wall".

wow, the things you find out! :o
-
She's still lovely--wearing her 62 years well. Here's a fairly recent picture of her:

Nice 834! :)

Wow, gorgeous pic, 834! I hope I look that good in another 12 years.
Francie Schwartz does sound familiar. I'm under deadline, so no time to look it up.
Yet, if I had to guess why Jane and Paul never got together, it's because she had her own ideas about where she wanted to go in life, and so did Paul. So they could never quite map out a compatible future for themselves. It's a problem when you have two very strong people who are creative-- asking one to back off their career is fighting words!
-
She's gorgeous!
-
Maybe too young--good Lord--it was 40 years ago. They had no idea. He was a young man with everyone throwing themselves at his feet. That's no excuse, but he probably didn't have a clue what he would want/need ever after. He found it with Linda. We should be so lucky.
-
She's gorgeous!
I know! And Paul's gorgeous too! Put one and one together....but no!
-

She's been married to Gerald Scarfe for about 25 years.
-
Did he leave her because she wanted her own carreer and didn't have enough time for him? That's what's always been said anyway. He did luck out with Linda, but I wonder if he would have married her had she not gotten pregnant. I mean he was probably feeling ready, but I think that had something to do with it. She wasn't into marriage at all until that happened. Or so she said. (Linda)
-
I always thought that they broke up because Jane wanted to settle down and Paul kept sleeping with other girls. Who knows. I dont think they ever really got along to well though, but thats just how I interpret that relationship. Almost like a highschool relationship. You tell each other you love one another, but you know deep down that they hardly ever work out.
-
Jane was sick of being Paul McCartney's girlfriend and wanted to break out on her own. His philandering probably didn't help any either. Though I guess it all worked out in the end.
Martha My Dear is definitely about her. You can just tell from the lyrics.

It's about his dog, who was called Martha!!

Martha was a very attractive dog, didn't kiss and tell, and didn't mind other pets.

I've read that they had split because Paul fell in love with Linda.

I don't see what she would get breaking off the relationship. Nothing basically, I still only know Jane Asher as one of Paul's ex. Unless if she did catch him in bed with another girl, that would make sense. I'm glad he met Linda, they seemed perfect for each other.
Oh and he looked really hott in that picture BlueMeanie posted (inlove1)

No it's not. I mean, he used the name and everything, but you can totally just tell... it's Jane in the song. "Martha My Dear, you have always been my inspiration... Martha My Dear, don't forget me..."
-
Yeah, like a kind of Sexy Sadie where John is really speaking about the
Maharishi! :)

She's gorgeous!
Wait, I said that already.

One would think that there's still contact between Paul and Jane. How else did Mary McCartney and Jane's husband Gerald Scarfe meet?

she has taken good care of herself and aged very well, hasn't she?i wish she would write a book on her time with paul.that would be such a good read.but.....jane is above all of that gossip stuff, and good on her, too.
-
jane is above all of that gossip stuff
-
i don't know anything about her
but to a certain degree, 'above all that gossip stuff' = doesn't need the money
-
fact -> every time someone mentions her in a beatles book or film, they're making money off her name
-
so if she, say, was in a state of financial desperation with medical bills or something - i wouldn't grudge her for writing a book
-
gossip sells
-
-
update - just googled her
it seems she wrote 3 top novels, is the president of several charities, has a cake decorating business and is an educated person of accomplishment.
way to go !

saint Jane ?
she's got a rich husband as well
-
lol
what did she really do to you nimrod? ha2ha
-
to be honest, my post originally said "it seems she . . is an upperclass educated person of accomplishment"
i took out the word uperclass because i didn't see any reason to taint the compliment i was trying to pay her with a backhanded slur
-
-
i guess if i'm being honest, she seems perfectly nice and kinda rich and . . . (boring) ;sorry
-
i'm sure she's the greatest person in the world... don't get me wrong....

arrrgh! why do i post these things ! ? !

I think Paul wanted a close, day to day relationship with a woman ....that he eventually found with
Linda, they seemed inseperable, Linda going on tour with Paul etc.
Jane on the other hand was persuing a high powered acting career and for eg went on a tour in
America with a play , leaving Paul on his own in St Johns Wood.... for weeks on end.
He must have got fed up going home to an empty house and having to whip up his
own meal of beans on toast !
Looks like it was Paul who decided to call time on their relationship.
( You ve got to admit though... Jane Asher was a smasher ! )

No, Jane rightfully left Paul after she came home early from touring with her theatre company to surprise Paul and unfortunately she was the one that got the horrible surprise of finding Paul in their bed with another woman when she and Paul had been lovers for 5 years and engaged to be married for 7 months.
Paul was also being a sexist pig and constantly pressuring Jane to give up the acting career that she loved, and she kept rightfully refusing. Jane wasn't asking and pressuring Paul to give up his music career that he loved, because he was a man,but because Jane was the woman,Paul thought she should give up her career and devote herself to him. She said that she enjoyed acting and she had been doing it since she was 5 years old and she didn't want to give this up.
A few people have said that one of the big reasons that Paul wanted Linda to be a member of Wings and go on tour with him,is that he didn't trust himself not to give in to all of the young women groupies he and John,George and Ringo had during their Beatles years,(especially when they were touring from 1963-1966) and cheat on Linda which he couldn't do if she was there.I have a 1986 VHS taped interview with Paul from a great interviewer Barbra Hower ( I'm not sure if I spelled her last name correctly) and she asked Paul how after having so many groupies he managed to stay faithful to one woman for so many years. And Paul actually said it hasn't been easy and that you also vow to it when you get married, and then he said smiling that it was more than his life's work.

I never knew (or maybe I forgot) that there was a third Asher sibling, Clare. She was the baby of the family. Peter Asher mentioned her in an interview that I was listening to tonight. He was saying that when they were children his mother was always told that she should put them in show biz. Clare did act for a while but then pursued a career in education. That red hair really gets people; I used to hear that all the time about my kids. LOL

Great-looking family!
-
Not that my opinion matters one iota on this topic, but I never found Jane to be attractive at all and never could figure why Paul was attracted to her as he could have had pretty much any woman he wanted back in those days.
-
I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I think she was adorable and modest, too. Even if she wasn't, I assume she was his soul mate; that is until he screwed up one too many times. At least, by all accounts I know of, he didn't make that same mistake again.
"I can't say that I'm not beautiful, because you'll think it's false modesty, but I'm not. I know I can look good if I'm dolled up. I can look attractive. It's very nice of you to say so, but I'm certainly not a beauty."

I saw Jane Asher on stage at the Los Angeles Music Center's Taper Forum in 1967. She was playing Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, touring with the Bristol Old Vic. My mum bought the tickets for us because she knew I wanted to be an actress and she knew I admired Jane because she also seemed very independent despite her relationship with Paul. Jane was very beautiful and gave a great performance in my then 12-year-old opinion. Jane and Paul weren't soul mates. Paul and Linda were. She gave him what he wanted and visa-versa. Jane has seemed to find happiness in her career, marriage, and philanthropic work so it all ended well.

Wilt thou be gone? it is not yet near day:
It was the nightingale, and not the lark,
That pierced the fearful hollow of thine ear;
Nightly she sings on yon pomegranate-tree:
Believe me, love, it was the nightingale.
