'Beatle' Albums From 1970 Onwards!
« on: July 17, 2006, 12:11:27 PM »

Here's a wee idea inspired by the "If they'd carried on" thread:

http://dmbeatles.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-cc/m-1133781147/

How about compiling a new Beatle album from their solo work for each year up until 1975. 20 tracks per album, 1 album per year.

Perhaps we could turn it into a competition with the best compilations being burned onto to CD. What do you reckon?

The Beatles usually did 14 songs on an album. I think 20 is a lot to the 60's/70's standards.

Yeah - I thought that too but I thought the format could be expanded a bit to accomodate more of George and Ringo's tracks - imagine a White Album every year! :)

lol, double albums werent rare in the 70's though, beside you can't really have one with just 14 tracks on it..mine would be too john biased, and i mean come on, ould you really want to waste the extra bit of blank cd?

And why would we include more George and Ringo tracks, apart from a couple of All Things Must Pass?  ;D

LOL!

Oooh, leading question!

Hmmm, you'll just have to imagine a fair Beatle-like split - just like there would have been if they were REAL 'Beatle' relases I suppose!

a fair Beatle-like split -

I wonder what that looks like... Let's take Revolver: Ringo's doing 1 which he didn't write himself, George is doing 3 songs (wow! that's a lot comparing to other albums!), Paul and John are both doing 5 songs. That sounds like a fair Beatle-like split to me. George put a lot of 'old' songs on ATMP -the reason why it was three discs- and I feel he could not come back with these songs if the Beatles were still together... So three is a good amount I guess.

Alright, let's get to business then. We have to pick songs from these albums. As it wasn't The Beatles' policy to put or take singles on or from their albums, I'd say we only use albumtracks. As a reminder I'll sum up with they recorded in these years.
Paul
1970: McCartney
1971: Ram and Wildlife
1972: nothing
1973: Red Rose Speedway and Band On The Run
1974: nothing
1975: Wings At The Speed Of Sound
to get an album every year, I suggest to take Wildlife for 1972 and Band On The Run for 1974.

John:
1970: Plastic Ono Band
1971: Imagine
1972: Some Time In New York City
1973: Mind Games
1974: Walls And Bridges
1975: Rock And Roll

George:
1970: All Things Must Pass
1973: Living In The Material World
1974: Dark Horse
1975: Extra Texture
As ATMP was three discs, I suggest we take disc 1 for 1970, 2 for 1971 and 3 for 1972.

Ringo:
1970: Sentimental Journey and Beaucoups Of Blues
1973: Ringo
1974: Goodnight Vienna
1975: Blast From Your Past (alright, a compilation. But let's Ringo have a hitsingle and take a song from this album for '71 and '72 too.)

How about we make a thread for each year? Yeah - I'll sort it :)
