A New Sgt Pepper
« on: April 06, 2007, 01:08:40 PM »

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band wil be re-recorded by modern artists, such as Oasis, The Killers and Razorlight. Bob Geldof is organizing things because of the 40st birthday of the album this year. The songs will be recorded at the Abbey Road Studio's on the analog equipment from 1967. Geldof is still looking for artists who wants to participate in the project. He's hoping that U2 will record as song. Producer will be Geoff Emerick and the songs will be broadcasted on BBC radio 2 later this year.

That should be interesting.
Would`nt be good if you could pick the artists and what songs you would want them to play  ;D

Well since I hate Oasis, not keen about the Killers, and never heard of Razorlight, I have no interest in this.

I Hate Oasis! The singer once talked crap to George after seeing him on a plane! Oasis ripped their sound from The Beatles!!!!!!!!!!

We (or some of us) have been through this before with the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie (Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, etc).  I thought I had forgotten!

I read about this yesterday - as has already been said, it is definitely not an original idea - anyone remember Wet Wet Wet's version of With A Little Help From My Friends (with Billy Bragg's She's Leaving Home on the other side)? Both tracks were taken from a charity album called "Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father", released in 1988 by the NME in aid of Childline.

Track list was as follows:

   1. Three Wize Men - "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
   2. Wet Wet Wet - "With a Little Help from My Friends"
   3. The Christians - "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"
   4. The Wedding Present with Amelia Fletcher - "Getting Better"
   5. Hue and Cry - "Fixing a Hole"
   6. Billy Bragg with Cara Tivey - "She's Leaving Home"
   7. Frank Sidebottom - "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite"
   8. Sonic Youth - "Within You Without You"
   9. Courtney Pine - "When I'm Sixty-Four"
  10. Michelle Shocked - "Lovely Rita"
  11. The Triffids - "Good Morning Good Morning"
  12. Three Wize Men - "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)"
  13. The Fall - "A Day in the Life"

Who could ever forget it? Unless you were lucky enough to have completely blocked it from your memory like a shell shocked Vietnam vet. But even then it's burned so deeply into your subconcious that disturbing images of George Burns, feathered hair and spandex occasionally come back to haunt you when you least expect it.  :o

This new album sounds like a bad, bad idea.  Why not add Sanjaya to the list?  I hear he sings.
