Post by: nyfan(41) on December 14, 2010, 05:47:02 PM
. . you probably shouldn't watch this as it may cement those feelings lol
-
THE TIME- 1972
THE PLACE - The Mike Douglas Show
THE EVENT - John Lennon gets to jam with his childhood idol: Chuck Berry
=
John is as nervous/happy as a little kid meeting mickey mantle....at first john and chuck fumble with the vocals a bit.....there's some tension in the meeting of these titans.... then... they get into it  ;yes ... it starts to take off ! and then >>>
 at 1:18 SOMETHING HAPPENS!

the look on chuck's face is priceless / john and chuck still deliver the goods ! :D

Damn! it's totally my fault that I did not read that. That Yoko scream scared me, dude!!! I thought it came from my kitchen......
Anyway, great video, Chuck's got the moves! and thanks for posting.  ;D

Cool to see them jamming together. It's a bit of a shame that their vocals don't really blend well though. And couldn't somebody take that microphone away from Yoko after the first scream?

on this next song they played their voices really gel during the choruses
-
comparing this to the footage of keith richards and chuck berry is like day and night.
keith kind of backhandedly asks/tells/offers to play the "filler bits" (.... as if chuck doesn't know that's also known as LEAD GUITAR) on chuck's own song
and proceeds to mess it up many times in a row
-
keith adjusts chuck's amp and just.... messes everything up with his patronizing twitchy vibe . . that blows up in his face
--------------------
in this footage you see how great and genuine a musician/person john lennon was
-
-
-
and yes, i think someone turned off yoko's mike !
this rocks- go john and chuck GO !  ;D ;yes ;D

And people wonder why I hate Yoko. How can somebody sit there and honestly thought that her screaming added something to the song? I love my wife and she likes to sing, but I dont let her when i'm jamming with people. Theres a reason for it,,,she cant sing and she knows it. Somebody forgot (or was afraid) to tell Yoko.

Indeed! A very wise decision. ;D

Chuck's still a cool performer by the way. I saw him two years ago, he can't play the guitar that well anymore but the voice and charisma are still there. Go see him if you get the chance.

Yoko's real calling was comedy, if only she had a sense of humour.

I know she made me laugh in that video. Maybe she was the straight man?

I don't have anything negative to say about Yoko besides I think that the part when she "screamed" (I honestly don't know what to call it) just wasn't necessary and it slightly ruined this awesome moment a little bit.I think that ruined is too harsh of a word to describe it though but overall like I said,it just wasn't necessary.

She totally sounds like a cat, when she does those sounds.  ;D

I was listening to Sometime In New York City the other day, and my cat Elvis was scared to come inside. When I turned down the sound, he walked right past the stereo.

Poor kitty was terrified of that scary lady!  :P

I was more than patient with Yoko, tolerating her as much as possible, without reaching for a razor blade to slash my wrists. But after what she did to Julian after John's death - now THAT was the last straw. She offered him any one of John's guitars. He chose John's famous Rickenbacker 325 Capri (played on Sullivan and Shea '65). Then she said, "No! That's for Sean!"

b****!

I still think if your going to castigate someone you dont know on an internet forum you should be able to back it up with proof

I ask again, can you prove that Yoko actually said this to Julian ?

This information came from Julian, as told to Cynthia Lennon, published in her second book, "John", in 2006. The incident is described in enough detail to be credible. As to proof, you must believe Julian and/or Cynthia.

Julian has alluded to it in interviews, speaking generally of John's instruments, without being specific about which instrument Yoko denied him.

ok thanks for that, Ive never read that book but Im surprised Cynthia would put that in and be so specific about which guitar Yoko refused him.

Actually, Cynthia wrote that the guitar in question was a black Yamaha with an inlaid pearl dragon. I posted that it was John's Rick, which I had read in another source. I would tend to believe Julian's/Cynthia's version. To be fair to Yoko, this Yamaha supposedly was used by John to sing lullabies to Sean, and she did offer Julian his choice of two guitars instead. Apparently, what upset Julian was that in subsequent visits to Sean, he noticed that his half-brother had access to all of John's guitars.

I was listening to some music on my computer (J&Y Double Fantasy - Stripped Down), then I skipped to Whiter Shade of Pale (Procol Harum).
I went downstairs to eat, and while coming back to my room after about ten minutes, I've heard a woman's voice in a high pitch, I didn't recognize
the tune at first, but I thought: Oh, it must be something from Double Fantasy and it seems that Yoko can sing beautifully!

But, after few seconds, I realised: it wasn't Yoko's song at all, it was Rose Hamlin's Angel Baby! ha2ha

So, yes, Yoko scared me... glassesslip

Rosie Hamlin wrote that for her first boyfriend when she was 14.  It was recorded a year later in 1960.

The B side was Give Me Love, an unknown gem...

Give Me love was an early favorite of John and Paul.
