The older stuff really isn't that simple IMO.. it sounds better too

Many reasons.  ALthough yours is a rather broad statement...not all old rock is better, there was a LOT of sh*te back then.  Old people tend to forget the clunkers.

Music now is a commodity tho, not a generational voice.  It was the same in the 50's and early 60's, then the Beatle revolution up to Woodstock.  SO in that manner the 60's were a special time for music with some guts to it.  But certainly there has been good music made since then as well.

It's like comparing apples & oranges or Led Zeppelin & The Darkness.

To be as simplistic as possible:

Times are different.  Bands have different issues to sing about.  Today's pop bands are (mostly) about looks.  Don't get me wrong.  I believe there is still talent out there.  Can anyone imagine Janice Joplin VS.  Brittney Spears in a talent contest.....Janice all the way.  However,  Janice VS. Brittney in a swim suit competition would be another matter.  Perhaps it is all timing.  Maybe we just hit a musical hiccup or talent fart in our present time.

It's weird because like pc said old rock is simpler  but is way better than modern rock ;)

hmm this is all operating under the assumption that the majority of current artists are like Brittney Spears....what about other artists that are actually umm...good?

The good bands these days don't do that much for some reason.  Like Oasis. When was the last time we heard anything from them?  Almost 2 years ago when Hethan Chemistry came out.  What happened to the days when a band would tour 5 times and release 2 albums in a year?

And old rock is not simpler.  How could a person call "Dazed and Confused" simple?  It's more complex theoretically, that's why it's better.  Three chords over and over again gets really old really fast.

I like a lot of today's "rock" bands, but my head is stuck in the Sixties!
