Title: Norman Hurricane Smith - Don't Let It Die
Post by: real01 on September 02, 2011, 09:55:01 AM
Norman Smith (Beatle's producent 'till 1965) also had a singing career.
He was hopin' John would record his song Don't Let It Die - but
someone persuaded him to record by himself. The song went to No. 2 in UK charts
- and he also had some other hits (Beautiful Day, Beautiful Night).

I liked him at first listening - and I still love his music. Let me just say
that Theme From Unmade Silent Movie is fantastic and... haunting!

Oh, Babe, What Would You Say? is another nice tune...
Smith said about this song: The melody was happy and simple. It was the producer
in me that designed the lyric to recapture the era I grew up in. It's almost a true story
of my life. I would go to a ballroom, but I was so shy I couldn't even ask someone to dance.
I'd walk home imagining a romance when I'd never even reached first base. 'Oh, Babe'
was about those fantasies.

Just to walk with you along the milky way
To caress you through the nighttime
Bring you flowers everyday
Oh babe what would you say?

Getting To Know You - charming waltz-tune...

You have his best of with all of his hits:

Yes, and I was surprised when I read about the Beatles connection.

Unfortunately, it didn't work too well for Frasier Crane.  ;)
