These photos, taken by a fan who wishes to remain anonymous, show the Beatles playing at the Cavern in July 1961. This was shortly after they returned from their rigorous residency in Hamburg. Mark Lewisohn described them as "whippet-thin under-nourished lads" and put the photos into further context:
“So slender has this marathon made them, it’s as if their heads and bodies are strangers, a look emphasised by the unusual clothes – leather trousers and cotton tops. No other photos show them dressed this way.”
“Three months from here, John and Paul went to Paris and returned with what became known as ‘the Beatle haircut’. Days later, Brian Epstein saw the Beatles in the Cavern, offered to become their manager, and set them on (a) course that changed our world.”

Pete didn't get his face on there.

Pete didn't get his face on there.
Poor Pete could never catch a break. But his hair looked good. ;D The other three look exhausted, especially Paul and John. It must have been about all Paul could do to muster that scream in the second photo.
wonder why the photographer wants to stay anonymous?
I think he’s just a very private person, blmeanie.

Thanks for posting the photos.
The surprising thing to me is that, after Hamburg I thought the Beatles would be dressed as rockers with leather jackets and maybe cowboy boots.
In this photo they have a clean group look with tight trousers and similar white tops, but nothing outrageous.
So much more a group image than I expected.

It might be the angle and resolution but it looks like a flat-top to me.

I find Paul's hair rather strange in both photos.
It's as if some hair has been added on so he looks more like a Beatle.
