Songs The Beatles Covered - Part 1
« on: July 17, 2007, 07:24:07 PM »

So, within the official releases from 1963 - 1970 there were a total of 24 songs that The Beatles covered, from Anna (go to him) on the Please Please Me album, to Bad Boy - originally issued in the US on The Beatles VI in 1965, but not until Dec 1966 in the UK on A Collection of the Beatles Oldies (But Goldies).

3 Larry Williams songs, 3 Carl Perkins, and a couple of Chuck Berry's for good measure. But which do you think is the best effort that they made covering someone else?

Because we can only have 15 options in any given poll, this is a 2 parter. Vote only in one of them, for your favourite Beatles cover.

Some songs are great. Pity I can't vote, as you said BlueMeanie :(

You have to provide links to each other in each part of polls.

So, somebody already voted in both polls! Just vote in one poll, please. Otherwise it's a waste of time.  :)

Indecisive rant continued from poll page 2:

Songs on this page I absolutely cannot live without:
- Twist And Shout
- Please Mr. Postman
- Roll Over Beethoven

Songs that I would be unhappy if I could not hear regularly:
- Boys
- Baby It's You
- You Really Got A Hold On Me
- Money

So I count 6 songs that I absolutely must have available at all times and 8 songs that are required for a healthy balanced diet. It doesn't mean I don't really enjoy the occasional iron supplement of "Chains" or a sweet and healthy "A Taste Of Honey". In fact, I should add these to the list.

HOW DO YOU PEOPLE DO IT? HOW CAN YOU JUST PICK ONE!?!?

Pulling logic on me, eh? Trying to make things simple, eh?

All right. I'll pick one. I will pick...

Okay, it's between "Twist And Shout", which is basically an orgasm set to music, and  "Long Tall Sally", which has that amazing vocal and dueling-guitars lead. *think think think*

Mr Postman. Superb. Twist and Shout gets on my tits. Funny that what might be the most iconic song by a band with the greatest songwriting team ever is a  cover.

Not at all, my dear Kevin. For me it just shows what an all-around powerful band the Beatles were. They could do their own material brilliantly, and other people's material... better than they did!  ;D

I've been listening to the Live at the BBC album lately and enjoying it tremendously. They were such a fun live band. I wished I could have seen them when they were doing these hour or even two-hour long shows. Wow, the place would have been rocking out.
