Song of the week - Something
« on: August 25, 2020, 12:48:12 AM »

Just listening to this.
I've thought for a while now that it's The Beatles greatest song. IMO of course.
It's so complete and has Great beauty and feeling especially the middle 8.
It's ironic really that Lennon and McCartney are my favourite songwriters and yet I feel George Harrison wrote the greatest Beatles song.

The bass line and guitar solo are magnificent of course.

Sinatra was right.

Its a great song, but i'm deathly sick of it.  As a matter of fact, i'm pretty sick of the entire Abbey Road album at this point in time.

Again great song though.

Well, after the divorces at least George Harrison and Eric Clapton got to perform Something together...

Osaka Japan   10 December 1991

A lot of emotion in that performance.

It is a great song and really well arranged and played.  George really lifted his vocal game as well; listen to the vocal isolations and he really sounds good. Probably never sang as well again. And of course Paul adds those terrific high harmonies that he does so often in Beatle songs which takes it to another level.

On the overexposed nature of our Beatle friends most famous songs, apparently there’s a British comedian who does a mash up called Imagine Something Yesterday.

I recognize Todd's sentiments, nevertheless it is a wonderful song and probably the best on Abbey Road.

que debate over "greatest" definition  :)

when I feel like having this discussion, at least the last few years, I change my wording to be favorite vs. best or greatest.  Everybody has different attributes they look for and appreciate in songs, hard to get agreement on greatest IMO

Love the song, top 10 for sure, possibly in top 5 in my favorite listings currently.  The merry go round of favorites though does allow for changes over the years. Thanks for bringing it up for conversation

Yes you're right there's no way to measure greatness.
It just seems to have everything, great beauty and I don't know it just seems so complete.
It's a masterpiece.
