Hmm, interesting slang from old Frankie. The book I read it in was 'Can't Buy Me Love', by Jonathan Somebody, which has been reviewed in the book thread.

So I wonder if John was using 'bird' in the same way, talking about, well, girl private to put it succinctly, lol?

Who knows, Steve?!  John didn't have good things to say about this song in his interviews and unfortunately he's not around today to elaborate any further.

I don't think there's any profound meaning of this song. To me And Your Bird Can Sing is "ear candy."  I really love the lead harmony guitars and Paul's bass guitar.  The vocal harmonies complete the affair.

I have been listening to the Anthology version and the released version and think that they basically changed the song by switching the vocal harmonies to the guitar duo and made one of the most dynamic sounds in rock! Pauls harmonies were reduced to the "And you bird can sing" line and the guitars were played almost to the note the way the origional (rejected) version harmonies were recorded!
Maybe one of our musical players could try this out and see if it's what they did to make the song so listenable.  Love it!

What I meant was in the origional there is only Georges guitar doing lead and John and Paul singing duo lead in off harmony. While it's good it's not great. In the released version it sounds like they just changed up the order of guitars and vocals so there were two guitars doing lead and John on vocals with Paul joining in to accent the title line "And your bird can sing" and turned the song into one of their masters.

My earlier post wasn't a comparison from another song but a comparison of the two versions of the same some. This released guitar work is unique IMHO

It would also be intersting to see any artists doing this before 1966! The Beatles might get credit for creating another style of playing!

Dave, in The Beatles as Innovators thread I mentioned a few jazz guitarists known for playing dual guitar harmonies prior to 1966.

I was thinking it might be jazz.

Songs are too loud and bass too low for my taste.  :-\

They sounded perfect on this end, Brynjar  I have Labtec speakers.
