Imagine it's 1967 and The Beatles are still touring.  You might see them play...

I LOOOOVE this song! Yeah those guitar riffs are great but let's dig around in those lyrics again, shall we? Is it just me or is John referring to himself, a bit like Nowhere Man? Speaking about himself in 3rd person to somehow distance himself from the problems of having so much stuff? (Imagine no possessions) And being an English bird myself, isn't the 'bird' in question a girl? I always get an impression of a swinging 60's party with men turning up with their latest 'bird', a bit like a fashion statement or 'look how cool I am I've got a 'bird who can sing'. I think the girl being green is John poking fun at those 'hip' sixties guys who liked to have an exotic woman or two, without being specific about colour, and having a bit of a laugh at their expense. Ok, maybe it's just me then.
But those guitars do rock. And yes, I laugh too when I hear the Anthology version, and fall in love with those crazy Beatles all over again...

Welcome back, cubanheel!

I think the "bird" in question is a girl too.  I can understand sing, green (meaning envious perhaps) and swing.  But broken is open to interpretation.  What do you think it means?

What an absolutely fabulous song and one of the highlights of the Anthology series was the 'laughing' version of it.

Would have made a great 45.
Imagine if, around April 1966, if Parlophone had put out 'And Your Bird Can Sing' and 'Got To Get You Into My Life' as a double a-side.....
It would now be considered the greatest single of all time!

To me this was one of their most exuberant songs post the Beatlemania period. Does anyone know whose idea the riff was? It made the song.

I was 16 in April 1966, oldbrownshoe.  I already had the Rubber Soul LP.  We were awaiting their next LP scheduled for release later in the year.  If The Beatles had released those two songs on a 45, I would have played them incessantly!

The harmonizing lead guitar parts were arranged and played by Paul and George on their Epiphone 230TD Casino guitars.

Unfortunatly for us in the USA we got the castrated Revolver so AYBCS was buried on Yesterday and Today!

But we got to hear And Your Bird Can Sing in June 1966 when Yesterday...And Today was released.  Everyone else had to wait until August to hear it on Revolver.

Poor old Joe Walsh was blown away by this a teenager and spent months trying to nail the riff. then he found out it was actually 2 guitars not 1... 2ch

Yes, it took two lead guitars to do that...

Its 'filler' like this that makes Revolver the greatest album ever made IMO.

I love this song, Steve!  Just listen to the isolated lead and rhythm guitars!

Like the way it jumps straight into the great guitar riff. Johns singing together with the guitars make the song a joy from start to finish.
