« on: July 07, 2010, 11:39:32 AM »

For folk in the UK just to let you know theres a a bunch of Lennon shows on this weekend can't remember when it starts I think around 9.30pm. It shows the Classic Albums episode of The Plastic Ono Band, some documentry about fans celebrating his life in Central Park and then after Lennon Naked.

I watched the Lennon programmes, it was pretty good.  I'd already seen Lennon Naked pretty recently so I didn't bother with that, but the rest was good.  I especially enjoyed the John/Plastic Ono Band show of "Classic Albums", so much so that I can't stop listening to it now!  It gave me a better appreciation of the immediate post-Beatles era, cos you can imagine that it can be a rough patch for some people.  And I loved Ringo's last part!  I can't promise to quote him perfectly, but it went pretty much like this:

Ringo:  "I hate being interviewed on albums, it's usually embarassing!  But I don't mind for this one - " - he holds up the CD of the album - " - it's a beautiful album, and he was a beautiful man...  and I'm just priveliged to feel that he was my friend."

And there was a little twinkle in his eye, and it was a fantastic moment.  Klaus spoke quite a lot too, and demonstrated some of the bass chords he played on the album.  I never realised quite how cool Klaus is.  :D
Another poignant moment was on the Lennon TOTP special, where Yoko was introducing "(Just Like) Starting Over".  She was explaining where the song came from and what was happening with her and John at the time, and she rather sadly said:

"It's just so strange that while me and John were rejoicing in this wonderful song, there was...  a spirit, behind us.  Waiting to take John away."

All in all, an emotional yet good series of shows.  :)

I agree, Jai Guru Deva: Klaus is WAY cool! What a bass player, chords and everything! And Ringo was gorgeous too. Really good programme.

Caught the classic album thing. Good to see Klaus's insight and I loved hearing Lennon's reasonings again. Ringo was on form. Good viewing. :)

I only watched John Lennon Shrine with all the fans gathering at Strawberry Fields New York, I didn't bother watching Classic Albums as I have it on DVD and I'd seen the Lennon TOTP Special recently when Lennon Naked was on and I didn't bother watching Lennon Naked again.
