When We Was Fab
« on: January 27, 2005, 10:30:20 PM »

Does  anyone else get really, really, sad when listening to this song? I know it's supposed to be sad, but something about it just gets me really depressed. I think the piano bit in the chorus is what does it, I mean, besides the lyrics.

Its George, playing, but he has multiple hands coming out of his pockets etcc, playing Slide guitar..its pretty well done for the time.

Then later, the camera pans out, and Ringo is playing on the drums, with a walrus on a bass (couldn't get paul :() ..but Ringo and George :)

I think the song When We Was Fab is great while the video with George & Ringo is visually much better than anything else at the time by Motley Crue & Madonna.

Best Video of the Year 1988
George Harrison - "When We Was Fab"
  INXS - "Need You Tonight"
Bruce Springsteen - "Tunnel of Love"
U2 - "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"
U2 - "Where the Streets Have No Name"

I didn't know that...the year when I was born.

I have it on his best of Dark Horse DVD, or something along those lines. Now, I have to go check and see the correct title. It's called George Harrison the Dark Horse Years 1976-1992.
He talks about how he was originally going to call the song When We Were Fab because it is "gramatically correct" but he decided that When We Was Fab just had a nicer ring to it and as a little joke.
I like the song, I like that it's sort of George's take on their life in The Beatles, as well as George's usual spiritual wisdom lines, if that makes any sense at all. I love the Indian vibe at the end.
The video is simple , but I think really good for the time period and the technology they had back in the 80's.  What I noticed, I don't know if anyone mentioned this in another thread. But there is a man that walks past the screen, he's wearing like a tan coat, look closly to what he's holding in his hands. A record, but not just any record. John Lennon's Imagine album. The person holding it is supposed to stand for Paul.
It doesn't get me really, really sad. It is a little sad, but I don't get sad over the Beatles breaking up, or them not being together. I think that's why this song isn't really sad for me, I do find it a little sad because of the whole remeniscent factor, but theres other songs that get me sadder.

Agreed.
I like that song a long with the video.
And yes, I did notice that.
Seemed like later on in the years, George & Paul started to hit it rough, don't you think?
There's a lot of dispute between them in most of George's later interviews. There's this one in particular (I forgot what its called) were he's just going on and on about Paul. And it wasn

Ya, but according to Paul, the last time he saw George, it was really close to the end, they had a good talk and crying and made up. Paul always says after everything he still loves George and thinks of him as his younger brother. I think that is so sweet.

But I know what you are talking about Oh Pineapple, they did hit a lot of rough patches through the years, but I don't think they ever stopped loving each other, deep down.

Yeah, of course, I bet Paul would do ANYTHING for either of them.
They all would.
They were brothers.

I agree.
They were selfish at times, but honestly, all things a side if either one of them needed any help, they'd be there for each other. So, their band broke up, big deal, it didn't mean they didn't like each other, they just couldn't be bothered all the time anymore.
