Defying the Groundhog

So Chuck the groundhog made it through his paces Tuesday morning at the Staten Island Zoo without incident. Unlike last year, he did not bite the mayor.
And as usual, he predicted an early spring.
Chuck’s trainer, Douglas Schwartz, claims that Chuck has an 85 percent accuracy rate. He defines an “early spring” for Chuck’s purposes as one where at least half the days in the six weeks after Groundhog Day have high temperatures above 40 degrees.

That dam* rodent was lying through his buck teeth. We had 20" of snow last week. Not all in one day but still....my driveway feels like a luge course in my little car. And the ice! If I make it to spring without falling on my arse I'll be lucky.

Well, it's Groundhog Day 2012. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning and went back in his hole. But nearby Staten Island Chuck didn't see his shadow and so we'll have an early spring.

How could he see his shadow in the shade like that and with all them fellers huddled around him? Darn near got away too, but they grabbed him only to shut him up agin in that silly hut. Poor ol' whistlepig. :(
