Both - in the beatles! :)

lennon - in the beatles
Macca - solo years

i can't vote, they were both brilliant writers in their own way, but who knows
what john would be writing now..

Macca in The Beatles
Macca without The Beatles.

Macca is da MAN!!!!!!

Without John we may never have had The Beatles, but i think Macca Contributed much more to the band once it was up and running, His Songs were awesome and he had a way of making the others songs even better than they were to start sometimes turning and average song into a classic, and was the driving force in the later years.

Love both of their styles.
Never going to live without both of them.
Without the Beatles, statistically Paul is the winner obviously...
But me personally, I love John's songs a bit more than Paul's, just because his songs usually always had a wise message or great meaning to it. He sang about world problems and all that important stuff.
And I like that about him.

Although I love John and his songwriting, Paul is my personal favorite and his songs just really appeal to me more than any other musician's.

Firstly, I must stress doing this is a bit like trying to decide my favourite between Fish'n'Chips; Hilary & Tenzing; Laurel & Hardy; etc when the bottom line is that together they are far better than the sum of their parts

However my vote would go to:

Macca.

John was the founder & the creative peer of the group through to the Revolver album.

But looking back it is as if Strawberry Fields Forever was John's abdication to Paul who became the dominant one who kept the band going when it otherwise would have imploded just after the death of Brian Epstein with the majority of the best songs in their partnership.

As for their solo careers John was a spent force post the Imagine album. Sometime In New York City is tear off your ears in horror bad. At least Paul went on a more gentler decline during the 1970s, before his recent renaissance with Flaming Pie, Chaos & Creation In The Backyard & Memory Almost Full. But for obviously tragic reasons it is unfair to hold that against poor John.

Okay

I have to go with Lennon here as I prefer his more personnal work, but I'm a big fan of Paul's as well.

The thing is that John is a greater personality than Paul, who is too materialistic and petty. John`s personal qualities enhance his charm.

JOHN JOHN JOHN JOHN! I like Paul's songs, but he also wrote some of my least favourite Beatles. I prefer John's solo stuff to Paul's. John is my idol (although I acknowledge his faults), Paul is...alright.

Shortly before I loved them all equally, could hardly choose the one. But now it`s JOHN, JOHN, nobody but JOHN.
