Revolver - Mixes Problems
« on: April 28, 2011, 07:45:41 PM »

How come the early mono mixes of I'm Only Sleeping, Doctor Robert and And Your Bird Can Sing made on May 1966 weren't used on the Revolver Mono LP?

Weren't those mixes released in the American album Younger Than Yesterday? I'm just saying because casually those songs were included there and weren't present in the American Revolver. Probably those mixes weren't intended for the British album.

The Byrds' album?

Hahaha, I meant Yesterday And Today, you know. I mixed the names with that great Byrds' record!

S'cool.  Those were on Anthology.  I think there was a Yesterday And Today/Revolver CD with early mixes.

What I know is that the correct mixes made on June 1966 were used on the Mono LP. Right, HelloGoodbye?

I would say so, Daniel.  But I'm very fond of take 2 of And Your Bird Can Sing.

Oh! I get it. In fact, I want to show you a list of early mono mixes of these Beatles songs that were supposed to be intended for the Revolver Mono LP.

I'm Only Sleeping - RM5
Doctor Robert - RM4
And Your Bird Can Sing - RM7/RM8

So what do you think, mate?

I would say so, Daniel.  But I'm very fond of take 2 of And Your Bird Can Sing.

No, but the final mono mixes made on June 1966 made it to the album.

One other thing. What else is on the US mono mix of Doctor Robert besides John's Herb chat?

The Beatles singing Doctor Robert. Amazing...

Daniel, can you believe that The Beatles sing on their own record...?

Those mixes were done because Capitol needed 3 songs to fill Yesterday and Today. They were done quickly to send to the US, I guess they felt they could do a better mix before the release in England.

Daniel, when I listen to the US mono mix of Dr. Robert I notice the middle-eight section mixed a bit differently than on the UK Revolver release version.

Maybe it's the vocals. In fact, there's extra percussion on there.

It does appear to be the vocals.  John's voice cracks a bit on the second set of "Well, well, wells" in the US mono version.

Maybe the vocals were recorded on two takes.

That's just what I think, Daniel.
