The Album That Almost Wasn’t: “Please Please Me” Turns 49

It’s no accident that The Beatles are widely considered the greatest rock & roll band of all time.  As with most groups that go on to achieve international fame, The Beatles’ success hinged on a combination of talent, persistence, and the breaks that come with dumb luck.The year was 1963, and The Beatles were on a tight schedule at the studio that would one day become their home, their stomping ground: Abbey Road.  However, they were unproven and unknown, so every minute in the studio counted.
