Post by: Mairi on November 14, 2005, 04:04:30 PM
Just to let some of our Canuck members know, there is an exclusive interview with Paul on Reader's Digest this month.

What's a canuck? I've heard the word before and all, but I have no idea what it is. Is it just the name you call someone from a particular part of Canada? BTW, I think John should be on the cover of Rolling Stone. They could have put Paul on next month or something.

Canuck just means Canadian. It used to be derogative, but we appropriated it and now use it on our own terms, 'cause we're cool like that. 8)

Oh! Makes sense. Wonder where it came from. One of my students called Canada Canadia the other day. That cracked me up. I need to do my job a little better I guess!

Dubya called Canada "Canadia" once. ::)

The sillest thing is, though, that your country is not really America but the United States of America, because technically the term "America" refers to the two North and South Continents. But you probably knew all that, being a teacher and all. :)

Yeah, but I guess cuz it's in our title or something people just shorten it. Otherwise it's a bit of long name! I forgot about the Bush thing. What a twit. I mean, at least my student has the excuse of only being 7 years old. BTW, I would hope that I would know about North and South America even if I wasn't a teacher! That would be sad otherwise.

Yeah, really, though. You've probably never heard of Rick Mercer (absolutely BRILLIANT Canadian political satirist) but he used to do a segment on This Hour has 22 Minutes called "Talking to Americans". Some of the Americans he interviewed were pretty ignorant, but none more than Bush, who actually thought the Prime Minister of our country was JOHN POUTINE!

I suppose you can find ignorant people just about anywhere. Especially if that's what you're looking for.

Oh, and there's really no excuse for Bush making these mistakes. I mean if you're the freaking leader of a country, you should freaking know these things. Jeez study or something. Carry around a cheat sheet at least. How embarassing he is.

You'd be surprised at how many adults actually don't know that.
