I'd have a tough choice actually.
-
#9 Dream.
-
Imagine!
-
#9 Dream.
I'll go for that one too.
-
Woman. It is a simple song, but that's what makes it beautiful.
-
Imagine
-
omg, wheres starting over!!!!!
cold turkey for me
-
My favorite would have to be Instant Karma.

It only gives you 7 choices so why not vote for other and say the one you want like I had wrote in the poll, everyone else did lol

'Mind Games'
-
I can't understand Whatever Gets You... being his only (in his lifetime) US no 1. To me its the least attractive of the lot, and sounds more like Elton than John.
I reckon Instant Kharma is the best single (but not song, if you know what I mean. Mind Games and #9 Dream are GREAT songs, i just think they're not good single material, assuming the purpose of a single is to be played on the radio and do well in the charts), but the drumming annoys the f**k out of me.
Cold Turkey could have been great, but its as subtle as a brick (which maybe was the point). The ending pushes the point a bit too much for me.
Stand By Me is a magnificent song but would be a hit for anyone

Instant Karma is one of John's BEST singles since it rocks with great drumming from Alan White I think & the lyrics are great as well as his vocals.
-
Imagine.
I hate how it's percieved that this was his only song, ever, but ... yeah. I think it was that good. ^^;;;;
-
Instant Karma!
-
Yeah, for me it would have been a toss up between Instant Karma and Imagine.
-
Imagine is a special song for me. It's the most beautiful song and it's just... I don't know how to explain it! I love it too much. :D
-
COLD TURKEY
-
oh god this is hard O_O i went with Imagine though for the record i love all of them
-
'Mind Games'
I'll go for this one too.
-
I voted for Imagine. That's my favorite song by John. That song sounds really beautiful to me. I love how he plays the piano on that song.
-
"Working Class Hero"

"Working Class Hero"
Where was this released as a single?
-
imagine :X
-
My choice is Woman :)
-
"Instant Karma." I like "Cold Turkey" more and more these days, too.
-
# 9 Dream .
-
Jealous Guy it gets me every time everything about it is great.

Agree!!!
-
"Jealous Guy" for me. I also love "Mind Games" and "#9 Dream."
-
Cold Turkey
-
i choose Give Peace A Chance.
-
for me it's "Stand By Me"... I know I know that the song was originally written by Ben E. King in early 60s, but IMHO Lennon's remake is a lot better than the King's original version.
-
I don't think John had many notable singles, so Woman would be my favourite.
Imagine is totally played out and I can take or leave the others :(
-
"Beatutiful Boy"
-
While Imagine is always going to be the standard bearer of Lennons legacy, i really love Instant Karma and Cold Turkey. They both rock and if it wasnt for the primal scream therapy at the end of Cold Turkey, it would of been regarded as a Beatle great. I'm still not sure why they vetoed it has Paul or Ringo ever said why.
Although i dont think it was ever released as a single my favourite track fom John is Oh Yoko (John and Paul should have got together and released Let Me Roll It and Oh Yoko as a double a-side to show they were still influenced by each other.)

What do you mean by the Paul and Ringo veto?

John wanted it to be a beatles song rather than a solo/plastic ono single. As they were managing Apple themselves at the time it was the foursomes choice. Obvioulsly Lennon wanted it that means at least 2 of the other 3 where opposed it being a Beatles single.
-
I never knew that was written during that time...thanks for the info. They made the right choice imo....otherwise they may have well let Yoko join the group. lol
-
Other...Instant Karma

it was too drug related and they hadn't lived down that full page newspaper disclosure in 67....

instant karma or no.9 dream
-
"Instant Karma." Conceived and released as a single. Great message. Phil Spector's production works well. Great drums. Nice refrain. Unfairly overshadowed by "Imagine" as John's quintessential message.
-
I'll have to say imagine. To me its the most relevant.
Give peace a chance too.
-
Imagine & Woman love singing them
-
My Choice is Tied with Woman and Imagine
-
another vote for Instant Karma
