MONEY MONEY

The Beatles official biographer Hunter Davis was with them on a trip to visit the Maharishi while he was living in Bangor, Wales.

"We got to Bangor and we all went out that first eveing for a meal at a Chinese restaurant and we ran up a huge bill.

The staff had no idea who The Beatles were and we had no money.

I just had a tenner on me and we couldn't pay the bill

The waiters were going mad saying, "Typical English people, coming up here and they're going to do a runner."

I remember George was wearing sandals and he took a sandal off and at the front of the sandal he had a hidden place in which he had put a 20-pound note. The Beatles were like the Royal Family, they didn't carry money, and because he had hidden a 20-pound note in his sandal we were able to pay the bill."

She likes to be high and mighty it makes her less insecure.

On another note... I got it out of a magazine and I find it very entertaining. True or not... are you going to go ask George Maria? ::rolls her eyes::

Any story like this is not always considered true. The Beatles memebers I'm sure have embellished on things that has happened with them.  But they are still fun to hear... at least I think so.

So let's get this clear: you're more interested in nice stories that are "fun to hear". That means we don't take anything you say seriously, because you might just be telling a story?

I get the Beatles stories off resources such as websites, tv, magazines, word of mouth.  The point is no one knows if its true or not except the beatles themselves.

There are two strange things in this story.
1.The Maharishi never lived in Wales.He gave a seminar there which the Beatles attended.
2.Wales is part of the Great Britain and in 1967 everyone in Great Britain knew who the Beatles were.Including waiters in Chinese restaurants in Wales.

On the other hand Hunter Davies was the Beatles official biographer so the story should be easy to check.Maybe someone can help us out on this? (The End?)

I've never actually heard this story before, but I'll check to see if it's mentioned in Davies' Biography. The two points you raised are valid ones though:

1 The Beatles sort of gate-crashed the Maharishi's lectures in Bangor, Wales (after George famously asked "got any mantras?") - the Yogi didn't live there... neither did Boo Boo (sorry, I couldn't resist it!!! LOL). Perhaps it was Davies who lived in Bangor - it's certainly a Welsh surname.

2 Yes, you'd think that the BIGGEST icons of the Sixties would have been recognised... even by Chinese Welshmen!
