The only thing RS is good for when ranking stuff is FINDING new music. I downloaded the top 500 and found a bunch of new songs and bands. But when it comes to their opinion in ranking stuff, it's off....a lot....

And just FYI, I need about 30 more ballots and I hope to get them by the end of the month so if you guys could help out and get the word out, it would be incredibly helpful!

In fact, I'd wager that they had that in mind when creating the album as a whole. "Come Together" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" certainly, at least.

Despite the fact that  in the mountains of words written and spoken by all those involved in Abbey Road, not one person mentions, even hints at this. You'd loose your money. Come Together was concieved (bom bom) as a political sloganaring song.

That's how it was conceived, yes. That's the official story. I don't think that's the whole story.

"I'm Only Sleeping" was conceived as a song about drugs. The final song, however, is clearly about sleeping in in the morning. How a work of art was conceived and how it finally ended up are often very different. Why does everyone trust what the Beatles and their associates say so much? They've been known to lie, so why always assume they're telling the truth at all, let alone the whole truth?

I've never subscribed to the belief that the artist's original intentions are the most important thing in determining the meaning of a work of art. I don't think intentions matter at all. What matters to me is the actual content of the final work. If it's not in the work, it doesn't count. That's why I like making fun of Pete Townshend's compositional skills, even though I respect him musically. He changes his mind after he finishes a work and tries to convince people the info was there all along.

I think "Come Together" is about a kinky stoned threesome, and that's what I'm sticking with.

It's interesting to me, how many people rank "Let It Be" as number one. Is it bad that I just really don't LOVE that song?

I really like the song, but was it on my ballot? No. They had a ton of better songs, but I can understand the love for it.

Thanks for the vote emmi!

We're getting close to the end!!!!!

I think "Come Together" is about a kinky stoned threesome, and that's what I'm sticking with.

From the beginning, Come Together was kind of a made to order song. It is well documented that Timothy Leary, running for governor of California in 1969, met John Lennon in Montreal: he than asked John to write something for his own gubernatorial campaign (Leary’s slogan being Come Together, Join the Party). Lennon immediately taped a demo and gave it to Leary. Eventually, Leary was arrested, then imprisoned and forgot about it. After he’d escaped, Leary says – in his autobiography – that he called Lennon and half-jockingly asked him why he’d enclosed Come together, the song, on Abbey Road. Always according to Leary – John replied that he had acted as a tailor: since Leary gave him no news about the demo and stuff, he felt entitled to sell it to somebody else.

Nope, you have a right to like whatever songs you like. "Think For Yourself" and pick what makes YOU happy. :)

If Come Together is about a threesome, Norwegian Wood is about a ::::Censored::::
