Frank Sinatra - "It Was A Very Good Year"

The Voice

He made that look so easy.

Have a heart HG.
Illustrating '65 with a Sinatra song is like asking Vinnie Jones to do a voice-over about the Brazilian team of Pele, Alberto and Jairzinho!

I do, oldbrownshoe...

Frank Sinatra - Young At Heart

Don't you know that it's worth
Every treasure on earth to be young at heart
For as rich as you are
It's much better by far to be young at heart

And if you should survive to a hundred and five
Look at all you'll derive out of being alive
And here is the best part, you have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart

Yikes, that guy couldn't have looked more dated in the mid-60s if he'd got out a lute and started playing odes from Tudor times.

Now that's more like it, they're far more comfortable bedfellows.....

Didn't really get that (?!), but then (a) Paul Revere & The Raiders didn't sell a bean in Britain, and (b) I was hardly going to click on a link dated 2013, now was I!

My point is how out of sync with the 60s Sinatra was and, if someone can find it/post it, there is no better example than an issue of 'Record Mirror' from 1967 which has a wonderful colourful/psych picture of The Pink Floyd as the cover story with, next to it, a crusty old black and white portrait of Sinatra advertising his new single.
They were happening at the same time (sort of) but they might as well have been hundreds of years apart.

Well, we're Americans.  And that was a California show.  I'm from the East Coast so even I didn't get it.

(a)  That's because you lost that war.
(b)  I bet you did!   ;D

I call BS on that.  8)  I like Sinatra and Berry.  Not the same as City and United.   More along the lines of me liking American Football and the Premier League.  Totally different entities, like Frank and Chuck.

I also like Beethoven and The Beatles. ;yes

To each his own.

I'm with you George. There are lots of people here with eclectic music tastes. That's something I like about this place. It's really broadened my musical palate. But if someone likes just one certain genre that's cool too.

I get delivered a specialist Rock 'n' Roll magazine called 'Now Dig This' and the day anyone in there has a good word to say about Sinatra or any of the Rat Pack I'll be sure to report it.
To many, those two styles of music are still mutually exclusive.

As for this 'liking all kinds of music' line, when stuff like 'Wonderwall Music' and 'Electronic Sound' has been discussed, such a liberal attitude has been found COMPLETELY lacking on this forum, so don't give me that 'I like all kinds of music' line!
That's the kind of thing I expect to hear on 'xFactor'.....they always 'like all kinds of music', you can set your clock by it!

I never said I like "all kinds of music".  I don't think that's possible.  I have no use for hip-hop, metal, opera, modern country, modern top 40, to name a few.

Your magazine specializes in rock and roll, which is fine.  A lot of people who like rock and roll like other genres.  You don't, I get it.

You cherry-picked 2 albums to say that people don't have liberal attitudes towards music.  Whatever.

I'm done here.  You will never be persuaded about certain genres and I will never stop listening to jazz, classical, Sinatra/Bennett/Julie London, Johnny Cash, etc.

I don't believe anyone did, but even if they did so what? What someone likes or doesn't like in no way diminishes my enjoyment of anything I happen to enjoy.

Sinatra had a lot of hits in the 60's. They weren't rock 'n' roll, but they were well placed in the American top 40.

I turned my nose up at it the time, but looking back now it's part of the "soundtrack of my life" - to cop a cliche.

He was the undeniable master of that genre.

And I adore daughter Nancy. A very cool lady, still going strong.

Why, here's the kids now...
